Hi, i wasn't sure where to put this....anyway, growing up i didnt have cats but had many other pets, including a rabbit with long fur that shed like crazy. never really been allergic, but then again its not like i spent much time with cats. my family got a cat, i was perfectly fine, although she was shorthair...had her a few years, then almost 3 years ago i moved away from home. my family got another cat (long haired), and eventually it got to the point that i couldnt stay there too long without allergies bothering me, i thought well its just because theres 2 cats and one has long hair.

well to get to the point, recently we found a stray, got her checked by a vet and have decided to keep her. but now my allergies are driving me crazy, we only have carpets in the back half of our apartment and they are very shallow. We have leather furniture, ive tried to keep her out of our bedroom but it dosent work, she ethier sleeps at our feet, or on the table beside me. how on earth did i develp these allergies? is it possible to rebuild my immune system? any advice would be much appreciated, we have really grown to love this little cutie...

Can you go to the doctor to see what meds might be available for you for your allergy problems?

I had developed a bit of an allergy to Banshee, our Rainbow baby and my doctor simply told me to get Claritin D. That worked and, eventually, the allergy stopped bothering me. But I know that allergies can become very serious; that's why I mentioned the doctor to you. I hope somebody else will be able to give you some better information.

Good luck! I hope you can keep your little baby!

I take Zyrtec, but I have noticed that a cat's diet can affect my allergies. When I first got these 3 cats, they were on dry food and my allergies were going crazy. Switching them to wet helped, but switching to raw made the biggest difference.
