My cat is a year and a half and she breathes with her mouth open sometimes, like after she runs or when you are playing with her she will get out of breath and start breathing heavy with her mouth open and her nostrils will flare. Her gums and nose always are pink, she has a very good appetite and is always playful and wanting to be around us but it is concerning to me that she has moments when she starts to breathe heavily through her mouth. There are also times when I think she is coughing up a hairball but nothing ever comes out she gets down in like a bunny position with her neck pushed out forward and her shoulders back and what sounds like coughing up a hairball doesnt produce a hairball. Has anyone experienced this with their cat? This is the first cat I own and she means so much to me im worried... can anyone offer any advice or have similar experiences?

Have you had her checked out by a vet for your own peace of mind? While kittens and young cats sometimes play too hard and pant, ruling out a heart problem would be a good idea.

Heart problem is my thought too. I don't like the sound of this:

There are also times when I think she is coughing up a hairball but nothing ever comes out she gets down in like a bunny position with her neck pushed out forward and her shoulders back and what sounds like coughing up a hairball doesnt produce a hairball.

If you have video capability I would get some footage of that to bring with you and definitely bring her in for a thorough check up.

Welcome to TCS and please let us know what you find out and how she is doing.
