We currently are having some issues with our 2003 Buick Regal. This week we have had a wheel bearing replaced. Drove it home Tuesday evening from the repair shop, got in it to drive yesterday and a new noise. Turns out, the A/C compressor is being replaced today. We wonder if it is maybe time to shop. We are thinking maybe one of the smaller crossover cars, like the one Hyundai makes. Anyone on here have any suggestions about a good one. Any make or model suggestions are welcome.

I love Hannah, my Hyundai Tucson....I really do. My GF bought her second Sante Fe and she loves that one, too. They're both good cars. The Sante Fe is a little bigger than the Tucson. One of my co-workers has a Hyundai Sonata and he's in love with his car.

Good luck!

I want a Subaru Forester for my next vehicle. It's maybe a little bigger that what you want, but I'm pretty sure they have a smaller crossover as well. Subarus always get good reviews.

I hear you! Our 2003 vehicle is also on its last legs. :(. We're considering a Honda Cr-v, but haven't done any serious shopping.

Good luck!

I bought a Hyundai Tucson in March and I'm loving it. It's very comfortable to drive and has plenty of cargo space for hauling my furkids to cat shows.

I ditched my 16-year-old Neon in January, for a 2013 Subaru Impreza, and am over the moon about it.  Subaru has a good reputation; nothing glamourous in looks (though I like mine), but they are very reliable, and mine got the Consumer Reports best small sedan rating recomendation.  Subarus also have all-wheel drive--good for bad weather, though I have yet to test mine in snow/ice. I know many people who have Subarus, usually the Outbacks and Forresters, and they are hard-core, life-long fans of the brand.

There's only 1 thing I dislike: where the cupholder is, but I'd still buy my car any day!

Got our car back. On the way home, I kept trying to get some air. Nothing was working. Hubby was coming behind me so I called him trying to see for sure if I had everything adjusted right. It was right a five o'clock so finally had to quit fiddling with the A/C and drive. Turned it off and rolled down the windows to get air. Getting up in the morning and taking it right back to them. A new car sounds better all the time.:lol3:

Just got a call from the repair about the car. They have to get a part (filter) and the nearest one is miles and miles away from here. It will be Monday before they can get it to finish the car. We will be driving hubby's truck all weekend. But at least the A/C works. This is a busy weekend too with my 50th class reunion on Saturday night and our grandson's birthday on Sunday. We will miss the birthday as the truck is old and we don't trust it to go our of town. The reunion is local, right across the road from the high school. Oh well, life happens, right.

It could be worse, I guess. Hang in there; hopefully they'll get it running (and cooling!) OK.

We don't take Clarence out of town because of his age and he's just not that reliable anymore. I know how that goes.

I was seriously looking at the Honda CR-V as well. I went with the Hyundai Tucson partly because I got a great deal on a used one with super low mileage--2010 model with 4,500 miles on it.

Oh we have looked at the Tucson. What kind of gas mileage do you get with it.

There was an issue with Hyundai....evidently they got caught exaggerating the gas mileage for some of their vehicles. The Tucson was one of them. When we first bought Hannah, I kept telling Rick that something was "off" with the gas mileage....I wasn't getting the mileage I thought I should be getting; it was around 26-27 MPG and I thought it should have been more than that, based on what Hyundai was saying. He thought it was just me.

Well, it wasn't my imagination. There was an article in the paper awhile ago about Hyundai and how they got caught. As a result, they have to reimburse Tucson owners (and there was another model, too, but I don't remember what it was) for the lie. Basically, they have to send out a debit-type card to all Tucson owners. When I take Hannah in for an oil change and other kind of service, they check her mileage and then they send that info out to Hyundai and then Hyundai puts an amount on the debit card. They let me know the debit card has been funded and I can use that card for gas or for whatever. It is for the entire time you own the car; it doesn't work if you get rid of it.  Since I keep a car forever and ever, they'll be funding that debit card for awhile. That's the way it's supposed to work. I think.

I have to take Hannah in for an oil change and tire rotation soon, so I'll have them send the info to Hyundai. We'll see what happens. I don't really drive Hannah that often; it's pretty much during the winter. When the weather is nice, I drive Clarence (the PT Cruiser). So we've not put a lot of miles or anything on Hannah yet. This will be the first time that Hannah has been in for any kind of maintenance since the whole gas mileage thing happened. We'll see how much money I get on the debit card from Hyundai.

Frankly, I still like my Tucson. It's a good car and it got me through the snow this past winter. And it's a comfortable ride. But I don't think the gas mileage is as good as it could be, especially for a 4-cyclinder vehicle.

Ford and Kia have also been accused of making false fuel-efficiency claims. Last week there were reports that a number of German automobile manufacturers do that, too. I can't find an English-language report about the German claims, but this article gives the same explanation that the German car makers did:
U.S. Auto Makers Face Fuel-Economy Dilemma

I don't think I ever saw the predicted gas mileage for the Hyundai Tucson before I bought it. I've only had it for a couple of months, but so far I've mostly been getting around 25 mpg, and that's with a lot of short trips under 2 miles. I did get 30 mpg on one tank that was almost all highway driving.

I just looked it up....for the 2013 Tucson, 4-cylinder, 6-speed automatic, it's 21 town, 30 highway. I'd say Hyundai is not falsifying the information anymore! Like I said, I get between 26-27 mpg (when I drive sensibly, meaning no jack rabbit starts, staying within the speed limits, etc.). However, I don't drive sensibly very often....I'm a speeder.

You know, it's funny you mentioning your Buick Regal. When we were car-hunting, I took a serious look at the new Buick Lacrosse. I just loved that car, everything about that car tripped my trigger. But I thought it was too big for me to drive around town, parallel park, etc. And when I told my brother that I really wanted the Lacrosse, he kept asking me when I was going to get my boat license. (My brother is a snot...
)  I did test drive it and I loved the way it drove. But I went with the Tucson.

When I see a Lacrosse, I still drool. I don't know why.

The Buick La Crosse is a beautiful car. We love our Buck Regal. It now has 173,000 miles on it. We bought if used in 04 and it is an 03 model. The left front wheel bearing went out at about 50,000 miles and the car dealership fixed it somehow under a warranty for us. Other than that, we have only done minor stuff for maintenance until now. The wheel bearing that went out last week does appear to be fixed. That bill was $200. The A/C is now fixed. We got the car back finally yesterday. They just told us drive it for several days to be sure all is well, then come back and pay.
I love living in a small community where things like this happen. Thanks Pam, for the info on the Tuscon. I also like the Kia Sportage.
