Pregnant belly?

On May 8th, my toddler let our 1 yr old kitty outside. We just moved to the area and haven't found a vet yet, so she isn't spayed. She disappeared for an entire day and didn't come back inside until the next morning. When she came back to the house, she had a male companion, and let's just say, they were having "relations." I brought her inside promptly, and she hasn't been outside since. She's had several heat cycles, and when she was outside, she wasn't in heat (to my knowledge). Usually she's very vocal and affectionate during her heat cycles, and this day she was acting normal. Here is my question- would she mate even if not in heat? Here is a picture of her belly, she would be right at 3 weeks post mating. What do you guys think, are there kittens in that belly?I read somewhere about their nipples turning pink if pregnant, but I can honestly say that I don't know what her nipples normally look like. I won't lie, I hope she is going to be a mama, because I'd love a couple, and I have friends who are wanting kittens, too! Disclaimer: she is NOT a fat cat. She is very long legged and lanky. TIA!

Cats are inductory ovulators, ie, the ovulas get loose when they do mate. So they dont need to be in heat to become pregnant, and you saw them in sharp action, no?

Heat is useful so she wants, and the toms knows she is awailable, but heat is not entirely necessary.

The pinkish color at 3 weeks is often called for raspberry pink.  If it helps you decide...  I would say they do look 3 weeks.

If you wish, there are none medical hindrances for spaying now.

Even vice versa, some veterinarian handbooks do recomment to let them get early pregnant and spay then. This way you dont risk they are spayed when in heat. As spaying in heat is more dangerour snd more difficult, especielly if the vet isnt really very experienced.

Good luck!

Thanks for the great information StefanZ! Yes, they were caught IN the act. I have no doubt she is pregnant now. Just since I made this post, her belly has expanded and so have her breasts (is that the proper term for cats?!) Her nipples have doubled in size and color since this picture! We would prefer to wait until after she has the kittens to have her spayed. We want to keep one for us, and then the others are already spoken for.

Meet Mew. I posted about 5ish weeks ago, asking if it looked like she was pregnant. Well, she sure is! She's 60 days in. Her babies are moving all over the place, and she's huge! I'm ready for the little tykes to show up. I guess it could be any day now? I've got her nesting box ready to go, just hoping she chooses it as her place to have the kitties. I can't wait to see what they look like! They've all pretty much got new homes, once they hit 8 weeks and after vaccines of course, but I'm afraid I am already too attached

The exact day is a guess. But better a couple of days later then sooner, as kittens dont manage well too early delivery.

Cats go often to the nesting box often in the last minute, or even, they deliver somewhere, and place in the nesting box first when they do have the delivered and washed kittens.

In the wild, they dont want to have the nest smelly too early, as there are predators out there.

Good luck!

She's beautiful! From what I've read the average is 63 days but they can give birth between 59 and 71 days so she should be having them any time now. My foster is approx at the same point. Wishing your baby a safe delivery and healthy kittens!!

Thank you for your replies StefanZ and SnipersMommy90 :)

Today marks the 63rd day. She's been in and out of her nesting box, climbed into the entertainment center shelves, and just generally all over the house poking her head into every nook and cranny. She's usually a nosy cat anyway, but she hasn't been doing this since she got so big. I'm guessing the kittens are coming soon. Maybe a day or two?

Yes soon for sure. I'm not exactly sure how far momma was because I trapped her when she was pregnant but the vet guestimated 60-65 days. Her scoping out locations to have them is a good sign.

Yes she's looking for a good place.   It could even be later today.

Block off anywhere you do NOT want her to have kittens - like somewhere that you would not be able to see to make sure she and the kittens are OK and be able to help if needed   ( like way back under a bed.)

Or of course somewhere you do not want the mess of a birth.

Might be a good idea to keep her in one room that's where you DO want to be the " nursery" .

& definitely don't let her get outside!

No kittens yet. I've got all the doors closed to every room, except the one with the kitten box. She's been obsessively licking her belly and tail area, which she can't really reach anymore
. Tomorrow is my birthday, and I'd love to have grandkittens share the day with me!

Pretty sure the kittens are on their way. Pink fluid by her tail, strange meowing, holding her tail out, and constant purring just walking around. I'm glad this is happening during the day, because she seems content to have them on my living room floor, and what a mess that would be to wake up to!

2 kittens so far. One dead, one nursing. Should I remove the dead one or leave it for awhile?

So sorry you lost one of the babies. I would go ahead and take the dead one away, especially if mom isn't paying any attention to it.

I took it away. I'm not sure what happened to it. It was a good size, looked healthy. She had it cleaned up entirely, cord was chewed. Who knows. This is morbid, but what do I do with the dead baby? We don't live in an area where it can be buried. the HOA probably wouldn't look kindly to that.

Wrap it in and leave in the garbage, as you cant bury.  Not pretty but what to do?

If they use to burn the garbage, pretend it get cremated, which is OK fate for the dead.

Good luck!

Congrats on the 4 kittens. So I guess your 'grandkittens' turned out to be born the day before your birthday?

Sorry about the stillborn kitten.

Yep, day before my birthday. The 4 littles seem to be doing good. 3 tabby and one black and white.

2 week old kitten has been breathing heavy for at least a week now, that I've noticed anyways. Her respitory rate was 64 this afternoon, and her gums are almost white, but her tongue is pink. She's not lethargic and is eating and growing at the same pace as her one sibling. (One sibling is a monster though!) The babies aren't hot. We live on the West coast, and it's only in the 70s during the day, with very little humidity. Out of the 5 kittens born, one was stillborn, one died on Tuesday from who knows what (extremely low respitory rate, died before I could do anything for it) and then the 3 live ones.
