We are thinking about switching to a bundle with cable - internet - phone from time Warner, to save money for the initial year.  However, we have reservations about the quality of digital phones.  If anyone has that service - is it comparable to the landline quality or is it more like cell phones or worse?  We are just trying to figure out a way to save some money, and this was a thought.  I'm willing to give it a try, but DH is dragging his feet

How many years do you have to sign up for and what happens to the price after the first year? I have asked around my area and nobody has it.

We had that sort of bundle through comcast.  I had no complaints with the phone or call quality.  I do believe it's Time Warner that my family in another state has. I've only used the landline there a few times since I always have my cell on me when we are visiting; but I can't recall any complaints.

We recently downgraded to internet only with comcast because they kept inching their prices up every couple of months.  And channels would suddenly not be part of the price tier we were on.  Always ones I liked and watched a lot.  Do check what the extra taxes and fees might be as well as what your price will be after the first year.

I also had the Comcast version of the phone/tv/internet bundle and the quality of the digital phone was great. Similar to a land land, very clear sounding. Much better than a cell phone. The internet was very fast, too.
What was not great is that they sold the number to countless telemarketers :( I know it was them because the only person we gave the number to was my mother. Oh, don't get me started on Comcast - we are still locked in a bitter battle with them over incorrect billing and inconsistent service. They are definitely on my S- list!
Time Warner isn't available in this area, hopefully their customer service is better than Comcast.

We don't have Time Warner, but we have an internet/phone/cable TV package, and the phone quality is comparable to a landline. One disadvantage is no phone service in the event of a power outage. That's rare here because the power lines are underground, but something you might have to consider.

Thanks to all for the replies.

It's a one year deal, no contract, and after the year the price goes up to regular price.  My thinking is to get it for the year and then re-evaluate or re-negotiate after the year is up.

Yep, I know there will be add on taxes and fees - but we are paying them now as well.  We currently have TWC for cable and AT&T for internet and phone.  Both have gone up recently.  I had the same issue with TWC with the price always going up and taking away channels to another tier, which is why somewhere along the line I signed up for a deal to get the digital tier.  I looked at downgrading to the lower tier, but it's only about $20 less than digital so it didn't make sense.  The other thought we have is to cancel it completely and go with over the air only.

I've heard some negative things about Comcast. TWC as well, actually, but I've always had good experience with TWC - at least the cable part.  The price they quote you is the price you'll end up paying, they don't add on anything they haven't already told you about.  And they do let you know in advance when the prices are going to increase.  AT&T (who we have phone & Internet with) is always a little bit more every month and it's really creeped up there to ridiculous.

Telemarketers already have my number. Despite being on the do not call list, apparently there are a number of companies that don't have to abide by that.  I just use caller ID and don't answer if I don't know the number.  I figure if it's something important, they can leave a message.

We lose our landlines anyway when the power goes out.  It does stay on for a little bit, but because we're on a remote switch, it will go out pretty quick.  I do have cell phone service, hopefully it wouldn't go out as well.  We like to have the landline because the cell phone quality is not always the best and I don't have unlimited service.

Speaking of cell phones, I found out recently that Verizon (my cell provider) has partnered with TWC, so I don't know if that would buy me anything when bundling.  I don't think so, but it wouldn't hurt to ask I guess.

It is encouraging to hear that digital phone quality is comparable to land line.
