Just to update everyone I am at the airport and I feel much better about leaving. He seems a lot better and is really interested in eating treats- I know not the best but I just want him to eat. I have left the name and number of some better vets and my mother is going to bring him to them if he is still sick or there is something wrong on the blood tests.

Another update: the blood results came back showing nothing wrong! I am soo happy but also pretty mad that I was extorted to pay $150 for this pretty useless blood test in order to get him the proper medication. I am so glad I listened to Carolina's advice because all of her treatment suggestions have been spot on- I think the vet should send you the over $900 I have paid them this week!

So just got off the phone with my mother- he ate some freeze dried chicken and licked some of the gravy from his wet food. She syringe feed him about an ounce of food and said he seemed to like it now. He also had a big drink and seems a lot better.

Again I cannot thank Carolina enough for all the very helpful advice. I really believe you saved my cat's life!!

Thanks and even better news he just ate a half a can of tiki cat on his own (his usual amount on a good day)! I am beyond happy and I think cypro is really a miracle drug. Now when I get home I just have to figure out his diet and get a good vet.

How's he doing today?
:vibes:
My mother says he is eating normally for him which is 3 oz of wet food and dry plus some treats. The cypro is really amazing and no longer have to syringe feed him. Again I credit his turn around to your advice!

Hi again! Just got back today and he seems all better. Eating normally and wanting lots of attention/running around with the kitten. I worry he got sick because of the new kitten and he thought I wasn't spending enough time with him so I am making extra effort to give him lots of attention.

I will agree with almost everything.... But metronidazole for 10 days for gas? No.
A gas pattern in an x-ray can be be due to hairballs, metro will show no benefits. Gas can be simply due to the kitty disagreeing to the food, due to too Much fiber in the diet, even probiotics can cause gas.
Metro has its use, sure, but it is a powerful antibiotic and should be used appropriately, IMHO.... Imho it's way over used.

Thanks for your input. I do have to say the pepcid ac did not work in Frank's case and the only thing that helped was the combo of cerenia and cypro, which are miracle drugs inmo.

I do use the furminator on him and he has not had a hairball problem before in the four years I have had him. Carolina in a post mentioned that this can get worse with age. I have decided to get him shaved so I do not have to worry about it because it seems brushing is no longer enough.

He eats tiki cat and weruva mostly chicken flavours. He is a very picky eater and refuses to eat more than 3 oz of wet so he also gets orijen dry food and pure bites freeze dried chicken which is his favourite food.

So the hairballs have come back with a vengeance. He was eating super well last week and I was even able to sneak some raw food in his wet food, but on Monday morning he had a hairball and didn't want to eat his wet food. I gave him the hairball remedy and he did eat later on. Yesterday he ate in the morning but then had soft stool (I think i gave him too much of the hairball remedy) he hid in the late afternoon and evening and  then had more soft stool and didn't want to have any dinner. Since he ate so little in the morning I was kind of freaked out and syringe fed him a little wet. Today he ate a ton of treats in the morning and just now ate a lot of wet food, but promptly threw up another hairball! I swear this cat is going to kill me. Though he seems fine and hopefully will eat in a bit.

I have made an appointment to get him shaved on monday. I am also really starting to think this is IBS so I ordered the treatment resistant 3 pack from vitality science (https://www.vitalityscience.com/v/AllProducts/cat-diarrhea/feline-treatment.asp). I read about this treatment in the natural cat care blog (http://www.naturalcatcareblog.com/2...wing-up-healed-in-one-month-not-just-by-food/). They have a money back guarantee so I am really hoping this works.

I know some of you would advise to bring him back to the vet but I have not been able to find a good one. He is eating and drinking and I am keeping a very close eye on him and will syringe feed if he goes off the food. I also have some of the anti-nausea meds and cypro so I can give them to him. I know if I take him back to the vet they are just going to want to run more tests, which I think will only stress him out more.

Interesting product. I recognize some prebiotics, probiotics, amino acids and homeopathics. I'm not sure what the purpose of the bentonite clay is, but overall, the product seems to have some very positive reviews. Please do let us know how well it works. Many vibes that it does work as specified for Frank's sake.

Argh he ate some treats and vomited another hairball I just gave him some of the anti-nausea medication and the hairball remedy I am praying this works because I just can't go through another vet experience like last time.

That's the same cycle I was on with Patches.  He would sometimes go for months with no problems and then it would be back.  He was even hospitalized twice on an IV.  I too thought it was just swallowing too much hair.  Patches is a short hair but Alice has longer hair with the thick undercoat.  I was taking Alice to a groomer for shaving to cut down on the hair that Patches was swallowing.  I had them go ahead and shave her tail too and the hair never did come back completely.  It's longer but she doesn't have that big fan tail that she had before.  I hope you get it figured out sooner than I did.  It took me quite awhile to find the right vet.

Many vibes that it does work as specified for Frank's sake.
Thanks Denice I do think it is IBS now and I am hoping that the treatment package I ordered works. At least unlike the vet they have a money back guarantee. As for the shaving I do think it will help as because of the time of year he is shedding a lot (I do brush him but it is a losing battle with his type of coat). Ragdolls are prone to both IBS and hairballs so I am hoping a combo treatment of a lion cut and the IBS treatment protocol will help him. My next step will put him on steroids if these things do not work, but I would like to avoid this.

Another update: I just went up and gave him the cypro but it wasn't needed as he ate some temptations right after. I am going to try some wet food in a bit and put in some slippery elm bark and human grade probiotics in it.

Hi :wavey:
My Bugsy has Ibd.... The only thing that made him better was a raw diet.... Nothing else worked.... Not sire of you are willing to try, but I would give it a shot before going the steroids route... You might be able to go without it....
Good luck to you and your little one :hugs:
