After reading some negative things about Blue Buffalo Cat Food, I am switching Mattie. I tried to buy Natures Variety at our Petsmart, but they don't sell it. I purchased Nutro Hairball Formula Cat Food. Has anyone tried this food and what were your opinions.

Are you talking kibble or canned or what?  I'm not familiar with it, just asking so I can look it up

Hairball formulas are usually higher in carbs and lower in protein :(. Any reason you picked the hairball formula over the regular kind? Does she have hairball problems? Does she get any canned food?

Yes she does get some wet food. She also is having hairball problems right now.

when my cats were eating kibble, I found giving them Temptations for Hairballs really helped.  I think you have to give 10 of them at a time to do the trick, but they really worked!.

I would suggest this rather than going with a higher carb, lower protein food, if possible.

Natural Choice's hairball formula is wonderful.  I have 3 long haired cats and this formula was heaven sent.  I noticed that the turds are lined by hair which tells me that my cats is passing that hairball which is better for my carpet than the presents left behind for you to step in.

I also attached the ingredient panel and guaranteed analysis and as you can see it's not that bad.  33% protein and 16% fat isn't bad but the 11% fiber is key to this formula's success.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you for this information. This is the formula I have switched Mattie to. She has been hacking up hairballs and I am hoping this will help.

Agreed! Egg yolks, egg yolk lecithin, or psyllium seed husks can be added to canned food and avoid the issue of dehydration as well as the unnecessary carbs.
