Break in Labor?

I am a small time breeder of Persians. My veteran Momma has given birth to four seemingly healthy kittens. The last one came at about 2 a.m. It is six now and she shows no signs of labor, I know there are at least 3 more kittens. She was x-rayed three days ago. Unfortunately this is a holiday weekend and the vet's office is closed. If she is not laboring, is there any risk? I don't want to spend a fortune taking her to the emergency clinic for oxytocin if she will restart the labor naturally on her own.

Pauses are not unusual, hours or even days.

the thing to do is to see how it looks, if she is contend, no problems, happy with her kittens - observe but you can await.  Especielly as here without no known complications.

But if she is visibly in distress, pains, long fruitless labor, high fever or anything - observe closely, contact your vet, be ready to rush in....

Dont let her eat more than 4 placentas, there is some risk for diarrhea if they eats many placentas. It is possibly just the high nourishing content, not good to get too much at once...

Good luck!

I've heard of cats having a break of 12-24 hours between kittens, although it's not common to go that long. Has she passed all the placentas from the kittens she already had? Is she acting normally? If she seems lethargic or in pain you might want to at least call the ER vet to ask if you should bring her in.

As long as she's still eating and drinking and feeding her babies I wouldn't rush to the ER vet, but keep a close eye one her in case anything changes.

Do you have a mentor you can call? Someone with more experience, especially with persians?

I had someone comment on one of my post that he had one kitten born on Friday, another one on Saturday, and another one on Sunday. So it's normal for pauses. I read that some cats can be in labor from 24 to 48 hours

This was not my thread (I just posted a similiar question), but I want to thank everyone who responded, because the answers help to put me to ease. My adopted stray gave birth to one last night, but nothing since.  Probably first time Mom, but she is eating, drinking, and seems at ease.  I think I can feel kitties moving in her abdomen, so she is probably OK.  I am a nurse, but not a vet!-so it is frightening to me.  I appreciate all who help "newbies" like me.

Tbutchdog, I answered in your thread. it is not impossible the firstborn was too early... This extra variation.

In such a case, she will prob deliver the rest when their time come, prob several days later.

It depends on how he is looking. If he is premature, be ready to fight on if you want he has a chance.

There is an article here on our Forum.

My Kashi is fine. It was not a break in labor. Turns out two vet techs and myself misread her xrays. She began spot bleeding this afternoon, and I thought she would go into labor to deliver the final 2 or 3. After an hour, I took her to the emergency clinic. We decided to do an xray before inducing labor. There were no babies in there. What a relief! C-sections are traumatic on cats and worse on bank accounts when done at emergency clinics.  Thanks to all who helped set my mind at peace.
