I have been eating a gluten free diet for about two months. I am doing it because of allergy problems when I eat flour products.
I noticed for the first time on Easter Day, I put on my suit for church and could turn the skirt around on my body after I zipped it up.
Now some of my jeans can come on and off without unfastening them in front. My fat rolls down my sides are gone. My size 12 petites are too big and I can wear clothes in my closet that I couldn't wear last summer. I have lost maybe three or four pounds, not much, but I have really lost some inches. This is great. My husband tells me I am really getting little.

That's awesome!  My cousin suffers from just a huge range of allergies it seems. She finally went gluten free last year or maybe going on 2 years now.  She told me she lost 8lb in the first month!  And she wasn't overweight to me at all.  She also said she had more energy and just felt better.  It was truly a good thing for her to do.  It probably also helps that it excluded her from having to have cake or pastries every time there is a family birthday; which like her husband pointed out, in our family is every time you turn around.
(The advantage to living far from family... I don't have to practice saying "no thank you." hehe)

Terrific! The same thing happened to a former co-worker, and everybody kept telling her to stop "crash dieting", which she wasn't. She must have dropped 15 lbs. in about 3 months.
It's lucky that it's easy to find gluten-free products nowadays.

Yes, I do feel better too. I really was not an overweight person though. I certainly don't want to lose fifteen pounds or there won't be much left. I am not quite five feet two inches tall. I am just thankful for the inches. A good thing I notice is I don't have the crashed feeling after eating all those carbs, like a big pasta meal. I buy gluten free pasta or use spaghetti squash in place of noodles when I make a meat sauce. Yesterday I took five pairs of summer pants out of my closet because they are just too big around the waist and hips. My sister will appreciate them when I pass them to her.:lol3:

Congratulations! That's great! I've heard of others losing weight by going gluten free.

Passed on some pants and capris to my sister that were too big in the waist for me. Went to JC Penny's today, bought a size 8 Gloria Vanderbilt jean. I am so excited because I had been wearing even some 12's. Been a long time since I could put it in a size 8 pair of pants.

Congrats! I am gluten free as well. I remember when I first started I couldn't believe how much energy I had and the fatigue that plagued me for years just disappeared.

Did you lose inches too. I am amazed. I am well up in my 60's so I am really happy to be losing the belly bloat. The other thing is I had beautiful rings that would not fit my right finger. Now they do

Sorry I missed this post :)
I actually put on a few pounds when I went gluten free but I had been feeling sick for a long time before I found out I had full blown celiac disease. I have been gluten free for 8 years now. I have never had inches to lose so I can't say it helped that. I actually needed to gain weight so for me it was the opposite. I just remember how great I felt after a couple weeks into the dietary changes. I've heard that many people lose weight after going GF. I guess it just depends which way your body has to shift to be healthier.
GL and don't worry it gets easier and remember to pack food for yourself so you don't go hungry in social situations :)

I have been told not to use a bread machine to make gluten free breads unless it has a gluten free cycle. So the one I got from my daughter is going to the thrift store. I bought dough hooks for my portable mixer, but the mixer is not powerful enough and the dough runs up the hooks and gets in the holes. I am trying to see if I can find a bread machine with the gluten free cycle or a heavy duty mixer so I can bake bread. The frozen loaves from the store are pitiful.

I didn't know that - I guess you can't get the right dough consistency. I've just looked at Amazon, and they have several with a gluten-free cycle.

We still have some old-fashioned bakeries around here, and several of them offer gluten-free bread. The supermarkets have a limited selection, but it's typical mass-produced bread and not very good. Neither of us has a problem with it, but some friends do.

The frozen bread I get at Food Lion is not good. But it is bread so if I haven't baked any, I buy Food Lion's and toast it. I really am struggling trying to find a way to bake it. I don't want to spend three or four hundred dollars for a heavy duty mixer by Kitchen Aid. I have seen a Sunbeam at Wal Mart for about seventy bucks that has a three hundred fifty watt motor. That must be heavy duty. So if I don't find a bread machine, I might try the mixer and then bake in regular oven. I bought dough hooks for my portable mixer but it didn't work right. The bread dough kept coming up the dough hooks and filled the holes the hooks stuck into. What a mess to clean up. I am going to look at Amazon. All the gluten free cycle bread machines I have seen on ebay cost as much as the Kitchen Aid mixer.:lol3:

No need to knead!

I use the Sullivan Street Bakery No-Knead Bread recipe as touted by Mark Bittman of the New York Times. Which uses regular flour.

No, no - hear me out- I Googled for no-knead gluten-free and there were numerous sites. I looked at a couple and thought http://glutenfreegirl.com/2007/01/i-am-stubborn-i-dont-give-up/ this one sounded very good. The heavy duty enameled cast iron pot with a lid is quite important. I went on a Quest searching a diversity of stores (pot was flimsy or handles weren't sturdy or lid was glass and I was afraid it would crack at the necessary 500° Fahrenheit heat) and ended up with a Le Creuset from an outlet. Love that pot!

Give it a try and, please, then report back on how it worked for you. It's so nice to bake bread with no kneading necessary.

I just made some gluten free cookies. I am going to use them in place of vanilla wafers and make myself a banana pudding with Cool Whip.
