Hi, First time poster... Long time reader here,

My cat Skittles is pregnant. She got pregnant on March 21st. Her temp dropped Thursday night to 99.8 degrees. She is not producing milk but she is nesting. She has not left her nesting box but to eat since Thursday night. Last night her temp went up to 100.9 and then this morning it is back down to 99.6. She is also not very big but at her visit to the vet 2 weeks ago the vet said that she would have a small litter. I took her back to the vet when she was about 7 weeks because I had not seen the kittens moving.  She has shown no other signs of going into labor other than nesting. Should I take her into the vet? I am worried that my vet might be tired of me. Am I worrying too much?

Back info on Skittles... She was found outside in Jan of 2012. She had worms and was nearing starvation. She was about 4 months old according to the vet. After meds and several trips to the vet we decided that she was healthy enough to be fixed in Nov of 2012. 3 days before her appt my grandmother past away. My grandmother did not have life insurance and it but us into some money troubles for a few months. In March we had rescheduled her appt to get fixed and the day she was scheduled I ended up in the ER and in Surgery. We rescheduled her appt for 3 weeks later but it was too late. On March 21st, while I was in the hospital my husband accidentally let her out. She was only outside for about 4 hours until he was able to catch her but that was enough. This is the only time she has gotten out and so we know that she got pregnant this day. My younger cat Captain is fixed. We got Captain when she was 3 weeks old and bottle fed her. She did not have the same health problems as Skittles so we did not wait with her. I have never owned a cat that was not fixed... Skittles is an exception because her health was so poor when we got her. So please no yelling about over population. I know this is not an ideal situation but I was not comfortable aborting the kittens.

Nay, I think as long as she seems fine and is not in any visible trouble, you shall just let the course take its place. They come when they come.

The milk often first comes when they are borne.

Do observe, of course, trouble MAY happen, but to go a couple of days extra isnt unusual, a lot of our forumites seems to be in this position, their cat seeming to go over the usual 65 days, even over 67 days...  Dont overdo this with temp measuring - she may feel stressed by it.

You feel kittens about 2 weeks before deliver, seldom earlier, so your visit to the vet wasnt strictly necessary.  Of course, surely good with a check up so you got vets assurance she is healthy and ok. :)

When they are in heat, toms around feels that, and she feels of there are toms nearby. In this postion they becomes small houdinis, and even a well behaving home girl manages to sneak out. 10 minutes outside may be enough if the tom is experienced. 5 if he also is dominant and determined...

Keep reporting and asking!

Good luck!

So An update on what is going on with Skittles... I took her to the vet today around 3pm central time. She stopped eating. The last time I saw her eat was Saturday night. Everytime I gave her food after that she wouldn't touch it. She also started to produce milk on Saturday so I thought that it was time... Sunday came a went with no kittens. Then around 3am this morning she started crying. Every 1 mins or so she will cry for a min and then stop. I had sat with he for 12 hours before I decided that since contractions had not started it was time to take her in. It had been a day and a half with no eating and over 12 hours of crying... My vet is closed for the WEEK! She went on vacation so I decided to just go to the 24 hour emergency because waiting for tomorrow would not work. The vet we saw said she wasn't pregnant. He felt around on her stomach and said she has not babies in there.... We just saw her vet 2 1/2 weeks ago and had confirmation. She has not given birth. The vet from today said it was a Pseudo-Pregnancy. He told me that she wasnt eating because she was depressed the kittens havn't come and that she would be fine in about a week. He said an ultrasound or xray was not needed because he could not feel any kittens. OH... One more thing... Skittles weighed 7 lbs two weeks ago and she weighed in today at 7.5lbs.

Should l take this vets word on this since my personal vet confirmed pregnancy? Or get a second opinion?
