The kittens are around 2 months old now and use the litter box perfectly. I've been using Tidy Cat non-clumping. They have stopped tasting the litter. But Mimi the little long haired kitten is getting litter stuck to her fur. I've noticed all the kittens are enthusiastic diggers and tend to squat into a hole they create. I think this is what is causing the problem as her stool is well formed, so I think it's just that she is going on the plastic bottom of the box and then the fur on her britches gets wet and litter sticks. She has had poop stuck on her britches a couple times too.

I know it's recommended to use non clumping for kittens under four months but do you think it's ok to switch them to Tidy Cat Breeze so she stops getting litter stuck to her fur? I've never had the pellets stick to my other long haired cat and since the pee flows right through to the pad below she can't get her fur as wet.

You could also try with clipping the fur there behind.

Also having more of the litter sand, making it deeper. Which by itself is really a good idea.

But if none of it helps, and you are entirely sure they dont longer eat the litter, sure, I think you can switch now,  as they are not longer really tiny and so fragile as at 4 weeks.

Good luck!

I really don't want to trim her fur. I'm going to try out the other litter box and hope that solves the problem and I'll keep an eye out to make sure they are not trying to eat the pellets.

I know you don't want to cut her fur, but that is the easier option. I have a longhaired kitten, and trimming the fur around her hind end saved me a lot of grief-my girl was pooing her britches frequently :-(
It grows back really fast btw.

I switched them to the Tidy Cat Breeze box yesterday and it's working great. They are all using the new box without issue and so far no more messy britches on Miss Mimi. They aren't trying to eat the litter either, which was my biggest concern.

It's zeolite. I use it for all my adult cats already.
