This morning my daughter and I came into the kitchen and discovered my son's 20 month old cat had passed away at her water bowl.  It was such a shock and heart break.  Hope was the first cat that we've ever had as a pet and I am just looking for some answers.  What would cause a young cat to just die?  She was an indoor cat whom we adopted about 15 months ago.  She was fostered and her mother cat was feral.  I keep in touch with her foster mother, and I don't know how to break the news to Cathryn.  My son is taking this really hard.

Are there any answers out there as to what could have happened?  I called my animal hospital this morning and the receptionist told me that she did not know anything that could be done to fine out what happened.

I am so sorry for your loss and the uncertainty as to why your kitty passed. I can only imagine what it'd be like to lose one of my cats...

Unfortunately, I can't shed any light on the matter. :(

I'm so sorry to hear your sad story. My heart goes out to you and your family. I can't help you with an answer either but someone will be along soon to help you out.

l'm so sorry for your loss
lt is heart-wrenching to face the sudden and unexpected death of a beloved pet.

l'm surprised your animal hospital would say that  ^    - we are always offered the choice of doing a necropsy. ln some cases it is just unnecessary, but in others it could prove useful. Hugs to you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can understand your shock at the passing of such a young and presumably healthy cat. Assuming there were no obvious signs of illness or trauma, my first thought is that she got into or ate something toxic. I would look around the house for other signs. Did she vomit anywhere?

I hope you and your family can find comfort in knowing that even though her life was short, she was one of the lucky cats that had a family that loved and cared for her and did not die unwanted and unloved like so many do. I'm sending you all hugs and prayers.

Thank you all for your words of comfort and support.  Reading these have made a difficult situation a little more bearable.  I spoke with Hope's foster mom this morning which also gave me comfort.  Hope was our first cat and I am certain she will not be our last.  My daughters and I are headed to the Friends of Feline cat sanctuary to feed the feral cats who live there.  It is such a rewarding experience to see the cats.  Thank you for your prayers and thoughts.

I am so very sorry for the shocking and sudden loss of your very young cat. You will never know for sure what the cause was but it could have been a heart issue which can go undetected by loving guardians. A close friend of mine lost her two year old cat that way but they had already known he had a heart condition. I hope you will find some peace by reaching out to the feral cats at the sanctuary. There are so many kitties that need a loving home and I hope in time when you are ready another kitty may find it's way to you and your family. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
