We just got a new kitten, and are over the moon in love with her. Her foster mom said she was feeding her 9 lives dry. I went and purchased her wellness and didn't get 9lives to transition her, she has been eating mostly wet... And a little dry. She isn't really taken with the dry food. Am I going to have to get 9lives to transition her over to wellness?

How old is she? He teeth may not be big enough for dry food yet (maybe 9 Lives is softer than Wellness, or maybe she wasn't eating much and was still nursing). Wet food is better for cats anyway: www.catinfo.org

She is not yet 8 weeks old, the mama cat didn't make it, so she was bottle fed, and adopted by another resident kitty, I didn't even think about the hardness issue, but I can't afford a completely wet food diet of Wellness, I would have to find a less expensive wet food option if she won't eat dry

There is no need to give her Wellness wet if it is not in your budget. As stated, an all wet diet is healthier, even if it is a diet of less expensive wet foods. Fancy Feast Classics are fine, but only the classic version. The Friskies pates, especially Poultry Platter. Pet Smart's Authority is another good inexpensive brand. Read the link Willowy provided, it's a great resource for all things related to cats diets. Good luck with your new kitten.

Thank you guys so much, after looking at her little teeth still coming in, I realized y'all were right about the food being too hard, I am putting the Wellness dry away until she is ready for it. Luckily my hubby fell in love with her ( he was lukewarm about getting a cat at first), and if we have to go over my kitty food and litter budget to keep her healthy and well fed, on an all wet diet, he is ok with that). She is such a sweetheart, I want to do what is best, the vet suggested science diet... But I am uncomfortable with that food,I liked wellness, but am I supposed to be varying what I give her (choose a few brands?)

Variety is best, brands and flavors. It doesn't have to be kitten food if she just gets small frequent meals though out the day. Let her eat as much as she wants. Go with grain free if possible. Science diet has wheat gluten. I don't like their foods, but so many vets recommend it frequently. Read the link Willowy provided. Best she never gets dry, the site in the link will explain why
. Wishing you much happiness with your new kitty.
