Do you like to sing? Are you comfortable singing in front of people?

I used to NEVER sing, nobody could make me do it because I was embarrassed. My mother told me when I was a kid that I couldn't sing, so I was mortified to even try! I played musical instruments well enough but thought there must be something wrong with my voice.

As I got older, I could no longer play wind instruments, but really wanted stay involved in music, so I started practicing when I was alone. I signed up with a private teacher (took me 3 lessons before I would sing for her!) who told me my voice had a 3-octave range, and the lessons gave me some confidence. Now I sing all the time when I'm alone and have even started joining in sometimes when others are singing.

(I found out a couple of years ago that my mother told ALL of her kids when we were little that we can't sing just to keep us quiet - she thought if we weren't good singers we would embarrass her. Such a shame to steal such a joyous gift from your children!)

When I'm walking, I will sing to the music on my iPod. The problem there is that nobody can hear my iPod; they can just hear me! Embarrassing, to say the least.

Years ago, I was out mowing the yard and I had an old Sony Walkman. I was singing at the top of my lungs (because who can hear me over the roar of the mower, right? Wrong!) My son came out and told me to kindly shut up!! He could hear me over the mower. And he was not happy. No, I cannot sing.

Up until she was about 10, our daughter would sing her heart out every night in the shower. One evening my husband commented that her singing sounded good and she was horrified to find out that we could hear her!

(She quit singing in the shower but sings in the school talent shows, kids are so weird.)

I love to sing; but if it's outside the house I prefer it in a group.  I loved being in the chorus in high school.  We sang such a variety of music that it was always fun.  I was on the Praise and Worship team at church during college.  A friend of mine and I had brief dreams of moving to Nashville.  I'll be honest; I'm glad I never pursued that idea.
I guess I have a decent voice at least but I get very nervous performing by myself.  Throat closing kind of nervousness.  Our mid-terms and finals for chorus often involved a quartet performance for the director.  I did not like those!

But like my Gram; I walk around singing nonsensical songs all the time.  Fortunately: I did not inherit Gram's singing voice. Tone deaf!!
My cousins and I grew up on scratchy, flat renditions of "Old MacDougal Had a Farm" and "Humpity Stumpity sat on a wall."  I love my Gram and those memories!

I rock out in the car too.  Not so much in the shower anymore; but yeah I'm a diva in the car!

Love to sing!!!!!!! I actually sang at my brother's wedding reception with the band. :lol3: Hero, Mariah Carey. AND, my parents taped it. It was awful!!! We did it for fun. I do get into singing and have gone to many a Karaoke bar. I don't sing like I used too though because it upsets my cats. :flail: Seriously, they all get freaked out by my singing. :lol3:

LOL, we need to see video

ln my case, no, NO, not ever, even alone.

Going to protestant schools in England, we had assemblies every morning where we sang hymns. We had to share hymn books and l noticed from an early age how very nicely my best friend sang compared to me, lol. Since then l was embarrassed to let anyone hear me sing. l won't even subject myself to the din. lnstead l whistle (l remember a post on how much someone enjoys the sound of whistling

I had a 3 plus octave range - mezzo soprano down to baritone. Now, since a respiratory infection I can only sing in the lower registers. I was in school choirs for 6 years, plus a semester in college, and a season with the local philaharmonic chorus.

I sing in the car, or sometimes if I'm alone.  I would never subject anyone to my (what passes for) singing.

I can't carry a tune in a bucket. But that doesn't stop me from belting out with song in my shower or vehicles.

We have a group who get together to sing Kirtan, .. a little known aspect of yogic practice.

I play the harmonium and usually lead because the others are a bunch of woosies (well, that's what I tell them) and we have drums and other assorted percussion instruments.

It's a big part of my life

Does anyone get that 1 song in your head in the morning and just think about it all day long ?  Or a song you can't remember ?

My friend told me a long time ago that her mother said " you should never stop anyone from singing because people sing when they are happy". I have never forgotten that. I like to sing in the car on the open road real loud. I'm so bad that I laugh out loud at myself. Its fun and It hurts no one- only my throat!!

When I have my headset on I really don't realize I'm singing out load. I listen to the music with the headset reading a book or on the internet.

I sing and play music with a group that goes to the nursing home once a month. I am used to singing by myself since I started doing that. It doesn't bother me and I have since played guitar and sang some songs in church.
