I have 4 one month old kittens, which are all starting the "monkey see monkey do" stage. They watch mom eat her food and Ive caught a few of them "tasting" it and by the looks of it they enjoy it. My question is, is 4 weeks too soon to introduce them to dry food? Ive read online that its recommended between 6-8 weeks but is it possible it can happen earlier? What kind of dry/wet food is recommended? Ive introduced them to the litter box and they arent too fond of it one of the kittens actually eats the litter. What can I do to get them use to it? Best litter for kittens? I put them in it everyday just to get a feel and as soon as I put them in theyre jumping out. My last question is when do you start to buy them toys? They love playing with my shoe laces and on my flip flops.

Thanks!

I used to foster kittens before I got 2 of my own and it's normal (in my experience) for mom to start weaning the kittens around 4 weeks.  It is DEFINITELY too early to move them to exclusively dry food but it is not too early to start making it available to them.  By 5-6 weeks the shelter I fostered for (and ASPAC also says) required that they should be eating kitten food consistently even if/while still nursing.  By around 8 weeks they should be weaned or nearly there.  Your kitties are right on track.

You can moisten it with a little water or KMR or blend with some wet food as necessary but I don't recommend contining to do this after the intro and it might not be necessary if they are already nibbling..  When I was fostering  I didn't want to break the bank so I went with IAMS kitten food which my vet recommended as the best truly low cost option. I am pickier with my own kitties.  You should get them kitten formulated food for sure though because they need things mom doesn't.

I added water to the dry food to almost make a mush just so I know she wont choke on it if she decides to eat it while Im not around

You want to make sure you're using non-clumping litter as it's not uncommon for young kittens to eat the litter.

Wet food is much better for cats than dry, so if you can feed wet kitten food, that would be good. Also, if you're going to wet the dry food, please don't leave it down for long, maybe 30 minutes tops. Wetting dry food starts a bacteria party.
