Hi! I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and my four loving cats. My household includes two senior kitties Cali 13, and Dax 11 and two younger adults Calvin 3 and Lily 2. Cali and Dax have been with me their whole lives and we recently moved in with my partner and his two cats, Calvin and Lily.

I found this site after discovering our boy Calvin peeing blood outside of the box yesterday. I called the vet and took him in this morning. The vet did both a sonogram and radio graphs and determined he had six stones in his bladder. They do not know what type yet but will after surgery. He also took a urine sample in the office to have it analyzed.  Calvin is currently in surgery to remove the stones.

I am sure he has been in pain for some time and feel awful that this went undetected. It was the first time I've ever seen him go outside of the box in the two months I've lived here. My partner, who is out of the country for the summer, was 100% supportive of the vets recommendation for immediate surgery.

I have joined The Cat Site for support and information.

Welcome!

I'm sorry to hear about Calvin's illness! I am glad you took him in quickly and he's being taken care of now.

I don't know anything about stones, but I am sending many wishes and vibes!

Thanks for your well wishes Draco. I have heard from my vet and Calvin's surgery went extremely well according to him and there were no complications. I get to pick him up tomorrow. The vet I'm sure will be giving me tips for preventative care to prevent them coming back.

This is my first time dealing with bladder stones or any other urinary problems, so I don't really know much either. I guess I am going to have to school myself quickly on this issue. The vet did discuss the two types for me, and also why surgery was the best option in this circumstance. The number of stones he had on the x-ray looked like it was taking up his whole bladder. He did let me look at x-ray and watch sonogram. My vet always does this type of thing. Haha, he even made me look at the ear mites under a microscope that Dax had as a kitten when I first got him.

I guess I have been very fortunate that none of my other companions have had any major health issues. Cali is the only other kitty who has been seen for anything other than basic wellness care. She has developed slight mobility issues (arthritis), but at her age I guess it is normal for some cats. She has improved greatly though with injections and daily cosequin pills and no longer needs any pain relievers.

Welcome to TCS!  Calvin (and the rest of your crew) are very lucky to have you and your partner to care for them.  I hope Calvin feels better soon.
