Hi.  Sophia, the pregnant cat that showed up at my house a few weeks ago had her kittens last week.  There wasn't much fanfare :)  She didn't even act in labor, lost the mucus plug and started having kittens.  She ended up having them in the bathtub upstairs.  I had seen her laying there a couple times, so there were sheets and blankets in there. She ended up having 6.

They will be a week old tomorrow.  Yesterday, she started trying to move them under the couch in the livingroom.  Not a good place in my opinion as I have 2 small dogs who might think they are squeeky toys.  When she moves one or two I put them back upstairs.  She doesn't always move the same ones.  She seems to put 1 or 2 under the couch and then lays down and feeds them.  I know she is trying to tell me something, I just don't know what.  We have not been upstairs bothering the kittens.  I go up in the morning and evening just to check and make sure everything is ok.  Other than that, no one ever uses the upstairs at all.

Any suggestions, please :)  I know I am tired carrying 2 kitten up while she is carrying one down.

Pic is from a couple days ago.
Thank you.

You need to confine her to a room so she cannot move them. If you read some more threads on here you will see mother cats are super determined and nothing will stop them from moving besides keeping them confined. Even locking them in the bathroom or getting a large dog crate is better than risking her moving them under the couch, which like you said is dangerous.

Thank you so much.  We were thinking about moving her to a bedroom, with plenty of room for her food, litter box, water.  We have some upstairs that are empty.  Wanted to make sure that is a safe thing to do, confining Mama with babies, before we did it.  We will do that tonight.  She does have food etc upstairs in the hall, but doesn't use any of it.  She uses the box, food, water in the downstairs bathroom where she were before she had the kittens. In the meantime, I will keep the living room doors closed and the dogs confined.  Maybe move them to the downstairs bathroom?  Have to decide.  Must keep them all safe :)

Thanks.
