Pumpkin was just lying down and started trying to catch his breath.  He didn't throw up, which he usually does.  His tongue was out. His eyes looked fine. Maybe his throat was dry.  I just tried to calm him and he was able to come out of this.  He is 5 yrs old and this never happened on my watch. Is there such a thing as mouth to mouth on a cat, and if so, how would I perform this?  He is acting like his normal self now...but he REALLY scared me.  Thanks for any input.

Was his mouth open and it looked like he was panting, sort of?

Cats do this when they are overheated, or really stressed out. I have seen cats do this at adoption events- like a little kitty panic attack, they do NOT like what is going on. My boy cat Toby would sometimes breathe like this on the way home from the vet after receiving his chemotherapy treatment.

A cat I was fostering used to do this after play exertion. I was told it could be a heart murmer.

If there is a possibility your cat is overheated or dehydrated you'd need to get them water very quickly.

It is pretty much never a good sign when they breathe like this. If it were my cat, and barring any clear explanation, I would take them for a cardiac test as it could be cardiomyopathy, http://www.homevet.com/index.php?op...n-anything-be-done-for-feline-cardiomyopathy?

Thank you for your reply.  He wasn't panting.  He was lying down and relaxing.  He seems back to normal.  Maybe he was trying to throw up because this morning he left me a little "deposit".  I will def keep an extra eye on him  =^.^=
