We have several cats that need to have deworming medicine. Some take it really easily, but most put up quite a fight. We use the Strongid and I am wondering if I can mix it with their wet food and give it to them that way. Will this work? I have also read online about a liquid dewormer that can be added to their water. It was called Piperazine. Has anyone tried this product before? Or is there another product that can be added to their water? We would appreciate any comments and/or advice on this matter. Thanks,Cookie

A very popular veterinary drug handbook says "Sure!.......and suggests a small amount of food (so you're sure it's all been gobbled up)

Piperazine is actually the name of the chemical...not a brand name. Piperazine is the ingredient in some of the Hartz and Sargent OTC products. (I wouldn't use it, strictly on that basis.) So far as any product added to water..........considering that the dosing strength is related to the weight of the cat, I don't understand how, if it's in drinking water, you could ever be sure that you've dosed accurately/correctly etc. So, I wouldn't use that one either.....remember "I" is me, personally.

You can mix it with food but I won't guarantee your cats will eat it :tongue2:. And make sure to dose and feed them separately so that you know who got how much.

I would think that adding it to water would be fairly useless because you can't really know how much water the cat is going to drink that day. So dosing would be awfully tricky. And they need way more piperazine than pyrantel. . .I don't see how you'd get enough de-wormer into each cat.

I mixed the Strongid with my cats wet food and they ate it fine. They did look up at me like they were saying "What flavor is this one???"
. But they finished it.
