Ok so i'm having a little difficulty here....we just brought our new baby Sweet Pea into the fold 2 weeks ago and we have our reinging queen SpookieBear who will be 5 in Aug......my problem is Sweet Pea is not as old as we were originally told instead of coming up on 9 weeks, she will only be just over 6...we when brought her home I started feeding her 1/4 can of fancy feast mixed with cat's milk about every 3 hrs....last night though she started getting really bad diarrhea and it has a very strong smell to it....and she doesn't seem to have any control over her bladder...she pees whenever she's scared, excited or just when she's playing.....I've talked to the vet but she said that unless the diarrhea continues more then one day I don't really have to bring her in....I'm just wondering if someone here might be able to give me some clues as to feeding her     should I take away the cat's milk and just give her the 1/4 cans of fancy feast or?????

Do you have any idea what she was being fed?  A change of food/diet, especially dry food, can cause diarrhea.

Do you know her background; was she outdoors.  Worms is fairly common.

And if the diarrhea has continued, I'd call the vet back; Sweet Pea could get dehydrated quickly, which is a serious/e-vet situation.

I would be more worried about her lack of bladder control. It sounds like she was not really weaned yet from her mother. There are good recipes for "kitten glop" on the internet and these do work well. For a kitten that young I would look at adding a combination of Hill's a/d and Hill's i/d.

As the other poster said, it would be good to find out what she ate before.

Kittens can come with a multitude of stomach issues. If they have worms you will usually see a swollen tummy. Other intestinal micro parasites (which usually live in intestines of healthy people and animals and we don't  have any problems as our immune systems are strong) that can cause diarrhea in kittens are giardia, coccidia, campylobacter. It is difficult to get them to show up in a stool sample as these organisms have different stages and are not detectable all the time. What is helpful is to be sure the kitten has probiotics in her food to help her gastrointestinal tract.

I am not sure what to say about the bladder, I would call the vet about that and do a bit of online research specifically in the area of how old are they before they have bladder control.

Yea after talking with the vet and a few other people I know, we've concluded that the lady we got her from wasn't the upmost honest, and SweetPea is only around 5 weeks old now. I was told she was on hard kitten food but no brand or anything....so I've dropped the cats milk and she's getting 1/4 can of fancy feast kitten 3 times a day and supplimenting with hard kitten food....if the diarrhea doesn't stop by tomorrow i can take her to vet friday....but not all of her bowel movements are diarrhea....i notice mostly when we put her in her room for a nap or for the night is when she's having the diarrhea...other times it seems to be solid stool     i'm thinking that alot of it is because we shouldn't have gotten her so soon, she was way too young to be weaned from momma so i'm gonna try the kitten goop and go from there......thank you so much every one for the advice and well wishes    at least i know i have help if I need it now

:) :)

i too would get some food from whoever you bought her from (a rescue? Friend?) They should give prpbidr provide you with some of what she was eating so esp if she is that young (!!!?) She can continue with the same diet and you can very gradually change it. Six months means she is WAY too little yo leave mama!! But call them and ask what she was eating and also I would nit use anything different for awhile. She no doubt is nervous -cats esp young kittens taken from mama -need extra attention -so kitten flop (many recipes online ir you can also buy kmr or kitten milk.) Good luck! If she still has serious diarrhea I would call the vet!

Yea I think i'm gonna just go with what the vet's recommending, because obviously the people we got her from are not quite up to date on kitten care.....from the size, weight and how she's developed we figure she is just over 6 weeks now, and we've had her for just over 2 weeks.....I am not happy with that, but then I guess me taking care of her and giving her as much attention as we can will hopefully make up for being taken away from momma too early....i'm gonna look up some recipes for home kitten food....though she doesn't seem to be having a problem with pate kitten food mixed with a little bit of cats milk....she's going to the vet on friday and we'll see about shots, which I was told she already had and some flea medication.....
