I have two cats, Doll and Yue.  Once upon a time, I left them for four months.  Both of them ended up getting quite obese under the care of the person who had sublet my apartment.  I ended up switching them to a grain free dry food (Taste of the Wild).

Doll ended up losing her weight (slowly), but Yue didn't lose any of it.

Fast forward to last year, when Yue got an intestinal blockage.  She ended up losing about a quarter of her weight in a very short amount of time, and needed surgery to remove the blockage.  Switched to a different grain free dry food (Wysong Epigen), and Yue more or less kept her healthier weight (er... even if she got to that weight in a really bad way). Then about eight months later, she got another intestinal blockage.  I switched first to high quality canned food, and now am on commercial raw (right now I'm feeding them Primal:  Beef & Salmon, Pheasant, and Rabbit.  I'll also feed them Red Dog Blue Kat, which I'll switch to most of the meats).  It's been about 14 months since her last blockage, so I'm feeling pretty confident with her new diet.

Lately, Yue has been gaining weight.  I watch my girls pretty carefully when they eat, and Yue's eating just as much as Doll, though Doll isn't gaining any weight.   Though, I just weighed Yue for the sake of this post, and even though she feels a little heavier than she had been, she's still at 8.8 lb (on a human scale), and when I weight Doll she was 8.4 lb, so I guess there isn't a huge difference between them.  But Yue's getting quite a bit rounder than she had been (and then Doll is).

Anyway, I guess I'm just wondering if I should be concerned.  Even though Yue isn't that heavy right now, I guess, she is getting quite round (to the point where my boyfriend who I've only been seeing for a little over a month now) is commenting on how big she's getting.

They get roughly 4oz a day. Two in the morning and two at night.

So raw feeding guidelines say to feed anywhere from 2-4% of body weight depending on activity level. As an example, if 8lbs is Yue's perfect weight, then that range means anywhere from 2.56-5.12oz a day of raw food. Right now you're feeding a little over 3% right now. You could try taking the amount down to 3.5oz.

As to whether you should be concerned or not, it really depends on her body condition and what her ideal weight is. If she's gaining weight, and you don't think she should be, then, I would cut down her portions a little.

Their body condition can change when they are switched to a raw diet. They can become more muscular. Of my 4, 3 have very solid, muscular physiques. But the 4th still has the typical DSH cobby body shape that she had before raw.

So basically appearances might be deceiving. I wouldn't worry unless the scale shows she is gaining weight. 4 oz/day isn't a lot but how much they need will depend on the individual cat.
