I got Mia fixed finally yesterday and I thought her wound would be on her tummy. But it's at the top of her outer thigh. I'm not finding any answers on google so I'm wondering what's going on?

Her cut has two stitches, it's about a cm long. Is this a new thing?

I read somewhere recently that the procedure can be done going in from the side instead of the tummy, but I don't remember if it was just some vets who had learned it that way or only in certain parts of the world. I would call you vet to ask about it.

Have you called up the vet and asked them directly? That'd be my first reaction... Especially if they didn't explain beforehand what you should expect to see etc...

I would definitely give your vet a call and ask them. I am not saying that it can't be done that way but I have never in my life heard of it being done that way. But then again, I don't know a whole lot about spaying cats myself.

I think that is what StefanZ called a flank incision. It is supposed to be less invasive. Am I right Stefan?

I haven't had a chance to call them yet because they haven't opened yet but my dad said his kittens (who got fixed the day before) have large cuts across they're tummy. So he wasn't sure. But when they released her they gave a certificate of sterilisation so you know she definitely is missing her bits.

My dad went to a clinic 20 minutes away that's why I thought it'd all be the same.

Apparently that's the most common way in Europe/Australia/UK. In the US I guess the majority of vets haven't learned it that way yet. But supposedly it's better because a side incision can be monitored more easily and doesn't get as dirty. A small incision means your vet is a skilled surgeon! :D

Is her incision like this one? I found this pic by Googling "flank spay": http://i50.tinypic.com/23ihu8j.jpg

Yep that's the one, well that's great to know :) the cut does look very small and very clean. I wonder how they get everything out of such a small hole.

They took everything out. I know that they took all because the certificate said she had all removed.. Maybe different places do it differently?
