Thunder is now 11 months old and is still mean when my husband tries to hold her.So tonight he was playing with her then help her and she went nuts. He wanted to see if Thunder would calm down but all she did was struggled to get out of my husbands hands. Does anyone knows how to calm Thunder down to where we can hold her and she becomes a lap cat ?  When she is sleeping in a basket of clean clothes I can go to her and baby talk to her and kiss her on the head but that's it.

Please help

Since I saw no earlier posts regarding your cat previously "being mean"  I don't understand what you mean from your post.  Cats aren't mean.  Cats are cats.  Some cats don't like being held, or petted, by one or the other ... and sometimes both of you.  Pretty well discussed on this site.

Is it not possible to just love your cat for whom she is?

Many cats do like being picked up and held. My female is one of those. I do pick her up, but the minute she squirms, I put her down. Her brother is the opposite. You can't MAKE a cat be a lap cat if it doesn't want to be. You just cause her stress trying to force it. She is not being mean, she's just trying to tell you she doesn't like it. Also, HOW they are being held could be the problem. Cats need their feet supported and not on their back, (like you'd hold a baby), more like putting a baby over your shoulder as if to burp them, is how most cats tolerate being held.

Thunder will be the way she is still she dies. Like I said before the only time you could really be lovey with her is when she is in heat and she lets us pick her up and pet her.

If she's not spayed at 11 months, I would recommend doing that for many reasons. It may also mellow out her moods.

No cat is ever mean. And as noted,,, some kitties just are not lap cats. They may eventually come to you and caring, feeding, talking, petting them @ their Leblanc without picking them up "Might " encourage it but cats have to do actions on their terms. It is who they are. Some have had badcexperienced as a kitten but oftenbit is just their personality. Like humans, some like quiet pokers lifestyles. Others need to be with you all the time!

my tom cat will let us pet him for about 3 seconds before he bites, we call him three second Tom. i wanted to pet him and make him a lap cat but that's not what Tom wants, so i finally realised that and have to accept him for who he is.

Tom has a blanket and on occasion when i put his blanket on my lap he will sit on it for quite a while. so if your cat has a favorite item try putting it on you lap and see what happens.
