Hi there! I am new to this site. I have two cats who have the run of the house and completly and totally spoiled rotten. My oldest one has taken to sneezing and when she breathes she sounds stuffed up. Do cats get colds? Her nose drips when she purs and it's cold. I don't know if I need to take her to the vet or what. Any ideas would be nice!

Hello and welcome to TCS.

To your first question, yes cats do get colds.

A trip to the vet would be a good idea to rule out anything else she might have and to get meds for it.

Good luck

Hello and welcome to the site!

Colds in cats are nothing to sneeze at. It could be anything from a virile infection to something a bit more drastic, but a vet visit would be a very wise move. I moved you to the Health forum-

Both of my cats sneezed when I brought them home from the shelter. However my cases were mild, no stuffy noses or runny eyes, so no meds required. Yours sounds like you definatly need to get to the vet to get some meds

My Sasha just had a cold about a month and a half ago, the vet tried two different antibiotics before finding one that worked. Colds in cats shouldn't be ignored, a vet visit is the right way to go.

Hope your kitty feels better soon!

Thanx for the helpful info. They are due for their shots right away so I can see having to get meds for them to. Although, after two weeks of being woke up at 3 in the morning because their hungry, I'm thinking of making them outside cats AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Most of the time their so good, they know not to bother my hubby but they seem to go for me (I must be a pushover). The way those two eat, they're going to eat us out of house and home. The weather is starting to get cool now so they are in seventh heaven tearing up the house because it was too hot to do anything this summer but sleep day and night. I swear, they are worse than children and believe me, I know children.
