Just a couple of thoughts.

First and foremost, please do some very serious research on this disease. Lots and lots of info available on Google.

Also, COPD in cats is also called asthma. So maybe you'll have to approach this issue from a totally different angle. Definitely look for information on asthma.

In addition, inhaled irritants (tobacco smoke, air pollutants indoors and outside) and dental disease can play a serious role in this disease. According to information I have, dental disease increases the risk that bacteria will travel from the mouth into the lungs and cause a serious secondary infection. Outdoor pollutants include pollens, molds, etc. (They can even affect strictly indoor cats that never go outside.) Also, molds can be a problem inside the home as well.

Do you have any holistic practitioners for cats and dogs over there?

Natural treatment would have to come from a qualified holistic practitioner. Treating a serious lung disease is most definitely not a do-it-yourself undertaking.

Here in the US even holistic vets realize that serious lung disease requires intervention with steroids in very serious, life-threatening situations and that there is no effective natural remedy when it comes to having to save a cat's life in an emergency. Please, keep this in mind.

In my experience anti-inflammatory medication administered by a vet (and a different form prescribed for maintenance) is the best, most effective way to keep this disease under control. Plus, of course, eliminating as many possible causes as possible, which is most important.

It doesn't matter what they call it. Also, asthma can be difficult to diagnose conclusively. The symptoms can resemble those of other diseases including bronchitis and lower respiratory infections, etc.

Basically, most often inflammation and mucus come from reactions to food and irritants in the environment. So, eliminating the triggers is of utmost importance.

There are some supplements that may be helpful for mild cases, but none of them are truly useful or good substitutes for proper medication.

Food - low-carb, high protein canned cat food is extremely important. No dry food, no high-carb anything. Can you do that? And, by the way, what are you feeding? Are you feeding any dry food? If you are feeding canned food, what are the ingredients?

Essential fatty acids can have an anti-inflammatory effect, but no miracles should be expected unless all the possible triggers are eliminated as well.

I can't emphasize it strongly enough that recommendations for holistic/natural remedies should only come from highly-qualified holistic practitioners. Not from lay-people who know absolutely nothing about your cat's health status.

The canned foods you can feed......Very discouraging as far as some of the ingredients are concerned. But, I know your hands are tied because many of the foods that are available here and even in some other parts of Europe are simply not available to you.

Hopefully, members on the Nutrition Forum will have some helpful ideas for you, so please go over there for more help.

As for steroids, a small amount of oral medication can be well tolerated by cats.

Caution is needed with injections used in emergency situations. A high amount of oral medication long term would have a devastating effect, so please be very careful if you decide to try oral doses. (Initially your vet might prescribe a higher dosage but that would be decreased then very soon to a safe low maintenance dose you wouldn't have to worry about.)

KRILL is the most popular among those with experience here....the first thread in Violet's link above shows the product of choice too http://www.thecatsite.com/t/258155/krill-oil ....it's important that Krill oil is never subjected to excessive heat because that somehow renders it ineffective - something that people on this forum have actually experienced. I think that the "guru" of Krill oil here is LDG...why don't you PM her and ask her to join the conversation?

Violet - many thanks for those links - much appreciated!
And please remember to add vitamin E to the diet if you give any kind of fish oil. Never give fish oil without giving vitamin E as well
Generally, that's an excellent recommendation....LDG has also researched this - what she found was that whether/not E supp is essential depends on the amount of EFAs being used...best to have her join in here to clarify this.

OP, if you haven't done so already I would strongly recommend that you learn first aid for cats. This is something that I myself need to do. I do know a few basic things but I don't know how to do things like CPR on a cat. The Red Cross offers first aid classes for pets but as far as I know, there is a fee for the class. The cool thing though is that you get certified in it. You can go to this website to learn more:

Do go over to the nutrition forum, though let me ask you this:  I see you live in Hungary (the country).  You have access to a limited selection of cat food.

You might consider feeding raw.  You must research this type of feeding.  LDG knows a lot about raw feeding, too.
