I got a new kitten a week ago to play with my other kitten.  She looked to be in good health when I got her.  Very adventurous, playful and fit right in.  The past two days her eyes have gooped up.  First the left then the right one.  I noticed her sneezing today she is starting to just keep to herself a bit.  I plan on making a vet appointment but there is usually a 2 week waiting list unless its an emergency and all the other vets here are wayyyy to expensive.  I was going to get her first set of shots soon but I know you shouldn't do that when they are sick.  Any idea what she might have?  My vet tech friend at first said it was just conjuctivitus but now with the added sneezing I have no clue :(  (Kitten is profile photo the day after I brought her home).  She also has started to poop in the bathroom instead of the litter box and has diarrhea.

I should add she will still pee in the litter box, but not poop in it unless it's been cleaned first.  Could that be because she doesn't want to step in the runny poo on accident?  (As she has a few times before starting to go on the bathroom floor).

It's very common for new kitties to come down with an upper respiratory infection within 2 weeks or so of going to their new home.  The stress of a new environment usually contributes to it.  If she has any discolored discharge from eyes or nose, stops eating, stops using the box, she needs to get to the vet immediately.  Do not wait for 2 weeks to get an appt.  If needed, find a new vet who can see you right away, or at least in a few hours.

Add a second litter box.  Some kitties don't like to poop and pee in the same box.

Well she eats, drinks, and uses the litter box fine (as long as we clean it).  My vet tech friend came and checked her out.  She thinks it's FHV... feline herpes virus and said to just get to a vet to get the tests done.  So I have an appointment made for both kittens.  The vet said that it sounds like that is what it could be as well since the boy is now showing similar symptoms event though we had him first... now he has it too. :(

These are similar symptoms to what my kitty, Monstro experienced. He also has FHV. The good news is, if your kittens have FHV it's apparently very common and pretty easily managed. My Monstro had an outbreak when I first adopted him (sneezing, discharge from his eyes) but it cleared up after a few weeks of medication and now he takes 500mg of L-lysine twice a day to suppress any future outbreaks. They make L-Lysine in chew form too so your critters can eat their medicine like a treat!

You're in good company if it is FHV. I hope that your little guys are doing well and that it all gets cleared up soon!
