I write today not for one of my own cats, but one who deserves to be mourned. She was the neighbors cat, a beautiful tiny orange tabby who came to us daily to receive attention she never got at home.We named her 'Alice', the neighbor never told us her name. I used to feel so sorry for her when she would sit by our patio door in the dead of winter, hungry and cold.I even fixed her a bed to sit in, so her feet would not be in the snow. Her little face was a familiar one at the door. Last fall I saw her get hit by a car out front, she did run away from the scene, and by some miracle showed up 3 days later. The sound was so awful I still don't know how she survived. She ran out of miracles Friday, we found her on the side of the road. We cried, stroked her one last time and gently carried her to the neighbors house. Even though I know the neighbor put out food for her, and she had a shed to go into, I pray we gave her the love she so obviously craved. I feel terrible, I wish now that I had tried to find her a better home, even though she wasn't my cat. But she lived where she was a 'farm cat' and there are many more like her. I can't help all of the sweet babies that show up at my door, and I have helped at least a dozen that were dumped by our place find a good home. She was special, a real sweetheart, and I'll miss her. Please know that you were loved, sweet Alice, we'll remember you and pray for you, keep my precious Chrissy company at the Rainbow Bridge! Finally RIP, no more cold winters and running from dogs, you'll be safe and warm forever.
