Good morning to all! :) I just couldn't come up with a good question today until I sat on the computer listening to my wind chimes outside!!! :lol3: This morning the weather couldn't be better. Sunny, blue sky, a fairly strong breeze and temps are 66 heading up to 80. For Mother's Day, my daughter got me two wind chimes to hang outside. That means I have three currently. I never had them at the other house as there was no where convenient to hang them out on the deck. The new house has three feet overhangs all around. Perfect for wind chimes. I don't like loud chimes though. I prefer soft and mellow tones. One of the chimes I have is wooden. I love the sound of that one the best. I love hearing the different and unique that each chime gives off. It sounds like music outside this morning. :D I have never had them before and at times thought they could be annoying. Now, I just love them. So many different types to choose from. My sister, who lives in Seattle, has TOO many of them though. :lol2: But, she loves it that way. Says that the sound makes up for days when it is rainy and brings on a feeling of sunshine. :sun:

I love the sound of wind chimes.. but being in an apartment, I have no place to hang one :(

I saw beautiful carved ones when I was in Jamaica.. I wish I had bought one!

Yes, I do like to hear them. But our home is in the middle of acres of farmland., which is wide open. The wind blows too hard for me to hang them on my porch. They would be destroyed or tangled.

Never had any in own house or growing up.  Would be tempted to try wooden ones but not metal ones.  Neighbor at sisters complex hangs them off the upstairs balcony so that they hang right in the middle of her porch view.  looks pretty driving up as you can't see the fish line or what not that is supporting it.

I got some to hang from the pergola in the backyard, but they had to come down because they freaked out our neighbor's dog. :lol3::lol3::lol3:

I do like hearing the soft, chiming ones, but the only problem I had was I like to sleep with the windows open in the summer. The neighbor had one that drove me crazy, they hung it closest to my window not their's! They finally moved it after they found it on the ground all the time! I wonder how that happened, must have been raccoons!
Now I live with no one around, one neighbor, it's a lot quieter. So I guess I'm saying I like them from a distance.

No. No chimes here. I worked a 7-day swing-shift for 18 years and working on third shift and trying to sleep through the day in the summer was AN exercise in futility. Our neighbors used to bring their young kids over to swim in the pool when I was trying to sleep. They also had a dog that barked and barked and barked and......     And she had metal wind chimes all over their back yard.....the kind made out of pipes.
(You have no clue what I wanted to do to those pipes some days!) To this day, I don't like noise when I'm trying to sleep.

:lol3: I would also be annoyed if my neighbor's had loud chimes. Larry even mentioned when we hung them that he hopes the neighbor's don't mind. One of them is a bit too loud so I put black electrical tape around the disk!!! Now when it hits the pipes it is very, very soft. It is a good way to deafen the "clanging" but still enjoy the chime visually.

That's a great idea!

l have one set that has a nice soft muted sound, and another set that is just plain annoying. l have neither set up since l live in a tall, narrow townhouse so my neighbours would definitely be affected.

:lol3: I thought of it the day I brought my metal Lady bug chime home. It was WAY too loud. The electrical tape is easy to work with and toned down the sound.

I love them; depending on the sound, but I don't have any.

My MIL has a wonderful large one that I just love to listen to.  It's probably 3-4' tall and hangs just outside their sunroom.  The sound is deeper than what I normally think of as wind chime sounds.  It's very pleasant to sit in the sunroom or out back and listen to it!

OMG I've done the same thing!
Not a fan, I like quiet. It's too windy all the time here and those things never stop. When we get Pacific storms, I've seen them break free and become airborne, yikes.

I do. I have a roof on my porch, so I have 4 distributed around between the railings. I have both metal & wooden. I do like the wooden one & smaller chimes as well.

One of the windows in my massage office is adjacent to the porch, so it's nice to hear them when I'm giving a massage.

My mother in law gave me a pewter cat wind chime it's about 8 inches in diameter, a cat inside a cresent moon with the chimes underneath. I've got it hanging INSIDE my house though!
Ooooo that sounds really pretty. TOO nice to keep outdoors and a very nice indoor accent.:clap::clap:
