childhood memories

My favorite memory of my father,mother,sister and 2 brothers was when dad came back home one day with 2 watermelons. We put newspaper down on the table and we sit there and ate that watermelon till we burst   and us spitting seeds at each other till we got caught. Those were the days.

On the way back from visiting my father's mother, my father, twin sister and I stopped by an old, resort type hotel where he played had big band music 40 years ago.  It was the first time I saw him first as a person, with interests, hopes and experience, not as my father.

One hot summer day when I was a kid it started pouring down rain.  We lived out in the middle of nowhere, so my mom, my brother & I got in our bathing suits and wet outside to play in it and get all nice and cooled off.  But my favorite part was when my mom started spinning around, just like a kid dancing in the rain.  I thought she was truly beautiful, and it was so awesome to see my mostly serious mommy let loose her inner child!

A fond memory of my family was during the winter and it was snowing like crazy outside. Dad had just come home from plowing snow at the hospital and mom was making chicken and waffles. We kids were watching tv.....it was an old Abbott and Costello movie of the Civil War with a female ghost. That's all I remember of it.....the ghost was coming down the stairs wearing an old dress. She was invisible, so all you could see was the dress. She got scared and the dress fell. That's all I remember from the movie.

The wind was howling and the snow was flying all over. But that night, we were all home, safe and warm. The house smelled wonderful from the chicken and dinner was almost ready.

And life was good.
