i have 2 female and spaded cats cabbage and sprout. i have never had any problems until i moved. they both started over grooming inside their back legs til bare red and almost infected i visited the vets they were given antibiotics and that settled them both for a few month.

then suddenly sprout started again so i took her back to the vets and they  said she is stressed and just kept treating the symptoms.

still now she carries on licking and its costing a fortune in vet bills for a "stressed" cat which my friend doesnt believe she is stressed becaause she is a very confident and loving with a healthy apetite. ive tried the cone so i can use cream, ive tried feliway plug in and food trials nothing works and she is so uncomfortable and sore but still persists in licking it .....any suggestions will be welcome thank you .

Welcome to TCS.

Hair loss in cats is called Alopecia.  If you google it, there is all kinds of information for you.  I had a cat with a "hot spot" my vet called it.  He would lick and lick the area on his abdomen until it was red and nasty looking.  He ended up wearing a cone so he couldn't reach it.  the vet said it was behavior induced.  He was stressed over something.  It did eventually clear up.

I think these things are hard to treat because there can be so many causes.

If your vet cannot offer much more, then I would take her to another vet.  A second opinion is not a crime and may be what you need to get to the bottom of this.

You mentioned not having problems until moving...is it possible there is something on the floor that is bothering them? Something in the carpet?
