My cat ate packing tape

Yesterday my cat ate packing tape. Not sure how much. He swallowed it before I could get it out of his mouth. He was okay all day until the evening when I gave him a couple of kitty treats. A couple minutes later he started to puke up the treats and continued to gag around the house for 20 mins. The tape never came up. Should I take him to the vet? Should I be worried?

We went to the vet this morning and they gave him some meds to help pass the tape. If he can't keep the meds/ food down then we will have to do surgery. But right now he has kept it down.
