I'm so excited because tomorrow I'm going to a Pet Expo and will be helping out at the table of the Rescue that I foster for!  I've never been to a Pet Expo, but it sounds like a lot of fun.  They're supposed to have presentations, vendors of pet stuff, other rescues, and even a household cat category show.  Even though I'll be working I plan to show up early so that I can walk around to see the vendors, and I've been told that we're allowed to wander around from time to time so I hope to have time to catch a presentation and to see the cats on display for the household category.  Now just wish me luck that I don't see too much stuff that I want for my fuzzy boys and spend too much :)

Sorry I haven't responded before now.  Been crazy busy this week!

The Pet Expo was a lot of fun, but no pictures unfortunately.  Honestly, I didn't even think about pictures until I'd already left.  Oh well, next time.  It was really busy, and a lot of people had brought their pets with them, mostly dogs.  It was fun to see them all, and most of the dogs really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I worked at our booth and we were able to give a lot of people information on TNR and told them about our upcoming Spay/Neuter clinic.  The lady I was working with said that every year after Pet Expo they get an even better than normal response at the clinics for awhile.  It's nice to know that there are so many people interested in helping the kitties in whatever way that they can.  There were a few people we talked to that are interested in adopting some of our available cats and kittens, so hopefully they'll come to one of the Petco events and we can find some more kitties their forever homes.  We also managed to sell many of the items we had to raise money for the fostering and clinics and received generous donations from people.

I did get a chance to walk around and see the other booths.  There were a lot of booths that were mostly dedicated to dogs, so it took awhile to find ones that were for cats, or for cats and dogs.  However, once I started to find them I was given a ton of samples to food to try for our kitties, and I was able to talk to a lot of the reps to learn more about their food.  There were a lot of natural food booths, so it was nice to get to talk to them about it and the ingredients and their research practices.  There were even a few booths of raw foods.  I bought a bag of freeze dried turkey liver treats & Hugo and Archer go crazy for them:)  (Which is good because they were pretty expensive!)

While I was walking around looking at the other booths I came across a woman who does hospice care for animals.  I'd never heard of hospice for animals, so I got to talking with her.  She had been a vet tech for 20 years and was saddened by the fact that people with terminally ill animals had to keep stressing them out by bringing them to the vet for their treatments to help them feel better until the end.  So she decided to start a hospice for animals.  She'll go to a person's house to give all treatments, physical therapy, etc.  I think it's a wonderful idea, and I hope that it's one that catches on...though I pray I never have to use it myself!

I also had time to pop over to the household cat show.  It was nice because they had it in a separate quiet room with no dogs allowed to keep the stress levels of the cats to a minimum.  I'm glad they said no dogs because there was an insane amount of people there with dogs, and I can just imagine the stress levels that could've occurred if they hadn't made this rule.  The guy who was judging seemed to be knowledgeable and he seemed to handle the cats well.  He was also respectful of them and let their owners come over to them to pet and hold them if they appeared to be stressed at all.  He also explained to us some of the different points that judging occurs on.  I didn't get to stay long because I didn't want to leave the booth for too long, so I don't know who the winner was.  There were only about 6 cats there, so he would've had time to look each over and also give his presentations.

I was disappointed with the lack of things for sale for cats like toys and carriers.  Again, it was mostly all for dogs.  I was really hoping a rep from the sturdi-bags would be there because I'm seriously considering getting those, but I wanted to see one first.

They also had parrot lovers groups there and fish lovers (Koi in particular) groups.  I didn't do much more than glance at these, though, but they did look like they would've been interesting to talk to the people if I would've had more time.

Oh, and when I was in there I found a group that does virtual adoptions, where you sponsor a cat and get pictures and updates about them every month, so I "adopted" a large ginger boy named Saffron.  He's a very pretty boy:)  The funny part about this is that before I went into the Pet Expo my husband dropped me off outside and said that I couldn't adopt any more kitties, he never said anything about virtual adoption though;)

All in all, a very fun event, and I'm very happy that I was able to go.  I hope to get to go to another one in the future.  catsallaround, if you ever get the chance I'd definitely say go to one:)
