Did you have chicken pox or measles  when you were a kid ? My sister and I had the chicken pox the same time my 2 brothers had gotten poison ivy from going in between the garages.

Mom had us 4 at home all at once. I don't know how she did it but she was a real trooper.

God bless my mom.

Chicken pox, poison ivy and poison oak a million times, whooping cough (pertusis)...the worst was meningitis. It went through the Atlanta school system in the early 80s. Never had my head hurt like that before or since.

When I was a child there were no vaccines, so I had them all. And I had German Measles (Rubella) a second time when my daughter was 2 and my son 4, and it affected my joints, I could hardly walk.

My children used to take it in turns, one would have something, then as they recovered the other got it. My son got measles when I was pregnant with my daughter, and she got it at a year old, before she was due the vaccination at 14 months. And I remember a couple of years when they had something every 6 months. Chicken Pox, Whooping cough (they couldn't have the vaccine as there was epilepsy in the family), measles, mumps, and Scarlet fever. Although, only my son got that. whooping cough was the worse of them all.

Thankfully there's now vaccines for a lot of these, so my grandchildren won't have to suffer them, but there does seem to be some nasty viruses going around at times.

Just chicken pox for me (thankfully). Both my parents worked, though, so I remember my grandmother coming to stay with us during the day since she'd had it already. Between my brother and I we had 3 weeks of chicken pox in the house.

I had mumps when I was 13. I have fond memories of the mumps, as I lost a lot of weight when I was sick! LOL

amoebic dysentery (6 mos old)

asthma (2 years old)

chicken pox

secondary infection after chicken pox (it was bad)

german measles

(last 3 in elementary school)

When I was about 8 my entire family and my best friend and her family had the mumps, although I never had symptoms I don't know how I could not have contracted it. I remember walking to school by myself for a week or two.

I still have asthma pretty bad, it's like having a lousy neighbor next door that you can't move away from.

I never had any of the traditional childhood diseases as I was already sick and on antibiotics for other things when they were going around my neighborhood and friends.

I had chicken pox. . .almost every kid on base had it at the same time so they closed the school and we all had a grand time playing together all day, LOL. I had whooping cough, despite being vaccinated :/. And I think that's it, except that I have an overactive gag reflex and tend to throw up if I cough too hard. . .which drove my mother crazy every time I got a cold :tongue2:.

Chicken pox

rubella

mumps

The vaccine for the 14 day measles came out when I was in the 4th grade and I hadn't it yet so I was vaccinated.  Scarlet fever went around in school a lot and that was the one that really worried people.  I think it wasn't the scarlet fever itself but the possibility of turning into rheumatic fever and the heart valve problems that often resulted.  School was closed several times during my childhood to stop an epidemic but I was lucky and never caught it.

Chicken pox, measles, mumps, scarlatina, etc. With three kids in the house, what one came down with, everybody ended up getting, too. We all three had everything at one time. Made my mom crazy.

I remember all of us sitting at the kitchen table one morning and mom was making us toast and tea for breakfast because that was all we could keep down. We had that mumps that time.

My sister had chicken pox so bad that it left scars.
