I just took my 3 month old kitten to the vet for shots and he told me she had a heart murmur. This is her 3rd vet visit and I was never told about it. The vet did say it was mild. Anyone had any experience with this?
I'm so sorry you got that news and unfortunately I don't have any experience with it. I do believe that cats can still live normal, productive lives with it- she just may need more frequent vet exams.
Did the vet say anything in terms of treatment? Or to just let it be? Hopefully if nothing else this will bump up your thread and someone who knows more will see it.
Sometimes heart murmurs in kittens actually go away! You can do a search on the top of the page and find many, many threads on heart murmurs, but here is just one example:
Murmurs are not at all uncommon. As has already been pointed out, kittens often outgrow them. With mild murmurs, some vets can't hear them. My vet can't hear it unless it's already a grade 2 or more - that could be why she's seen a vet 3 times and no one's mentioned it before. It can also be just from stress at being at the vet, and the others simply couldn't hear it.
At this point, it's just something to keep an eye on, so to speak. It may go away as she grows. It may be just a stress murmur. If it's something that becomes more pronounced as she gets older, then further diagnostics should be pursued. But she's got some growing to do first! :rub:
