!!! one of my cat's kittens eye was glued shut with mucous so I got a cotton ball wet and tried to get some of it off but when I did it looked like it didn't have an eye. all of the other kittens are doing fine except that one.

                                                                                                                             any input would be great!

Whatever it is, it sounds like a vet errand!  ASAP!  Begin at least with phoning your vet.

While you wait for the vet opening hours, you can clean off with saline water,  boil in some salt with the water "a tea spoon kitchen salt in one litre of water....

You can pour profusely if you want....   It is more or less like tears.

But as said, whatever it is, a vet should look at it, and also precribe antibiotics, if the eye is there or not. He has either a severe infection, or  may get infection if his eye got stuck out.

Good luck!

ok I did the saline water thing on the kitten and turns out it just had a layer of pink tissue covering it's eye so it looked like it didn't have a eye but now the eye is starting to open an everyone is doing fine except stache she is acting funny she won't eat or drink she won't nurse the kittens unless someone puts her in the box she won't let anyone pick her up and she loves getting cuddled and she walks about 2 to 3 feet from where we put her lays down and won't move I'm worried something is seriously wrong.

Stache is the mom?  So NOW you are in a hurry to contact vet!  ASAP.  Not only to save Stache, but also hopefully getting her back to these small kittens!

Nice it turned well with this kittens eye. You did save yourself some vet payment doing the saline wash first.  But now it cant be helped, take these savings and away to the vet... Lend money somewhere if you dont have own at hand.

I could probably come on some advice what to do at home. But such you can play with look and see with an individual.   A mom of a litter you dont want to game with.

Vet next!!!

Good luck!

ps.  Prepare also yourself what to do if Sache cant nurse them... Bottles, etc.  If you can get goat milk it is perhaps even better than kmr.  Dextrose sugar (=glucose sugar) good in many emergencies...

About handraising look articles here at this forum. You can google too.

It just sounds like the third eyelid was covering the eye. It does sound like something is going on with that one eye so I would still take the kitten to the vets to be checked out.

I think you have right here, Melesine.  And thus I agree a vet visit is still in order.

The third eyelid is not always a problem with the eye, but usually a sign for a infection or inflammation somewhere.  And as there was so much of this mucose, it may be something with the eye after all...

So, take both mom and child to the vet.

Mom ASAP/Emergency, child ASAP.

Good luck!

Yes, I would take them both to the vet asap. The mom may have mastitis, which is very painful when she tries to nurse, and the kittens could go downhill very fast. Good luck.

Sounds like conjunctivitis.  Take the kitten to the vet for an antibiotic.

ok I called a vet for momma stache and she said that stache has a plugged milk duct so we looked and she had a swollen nipple about 4x the original size. we gave her a penicillin shot and she seems to have perked up but she is having trouble nursing all the babies so we got some bottles and milk replacement but the kittens won't drink from the bottle and the little one with the swollen eye is going to starve to death he is really malnourished.   I need some help!!

It may be so the holes in the naps are too small, it makes it difficult to drink.  So you can try with a somewhat larger hole.

Another alternative is a dropper. It is easier for them with a dropper...

Be sure they get bottle lying tummy down, head up. It seems awkward, but it is the natural postiton when they nurse mom.

Be careful so they dont get fluids in lungs...  Easy done if not careful.

Third possible alternative you must look up with, is they may have gone too weak now to suck properly.

Be sure they are warm.  Set on some wet sugar on their gum, it gives them strengh... (when they begin to fade it is usually because they dont have enough blood sugar).

Wetted Dextrose sugar (=glucose sugar) is best, but honey is ok, white caro syrup is OK... If desperate, common sugar may be used, but not so efficient.

Good luck!
