Well, now I know why she was "powerful big for a first litter" - she was carrying 6!
It was an eventful delivery.
First of all, it took almost half an hour for the first kitten to come. There was an obvious bubble sack hanging out of her for well over 20 minutes. And she was having crazy hard contractions. Just when I was about to panic, out it came.
She had the next 3 kittens about 20 minutes apart. She was completely exhausted, so I figured she was done, and left her alone to rest.
I checked on her an hour later, and there was another kitten.
My son checked on her an hour after that, and told me there was a deformed kitten. It wasn't deformed, it was just half in its sack.
I had to cut the umbilical cord for all 6 of them, and open the sacks for 2. She was just so exhausted that she couldn't do it.
But this morning, all 6 of them were cleaned up and healthy, mewling when she moves and latching on great. And big for kittens. There isn't a runt.
She bled quite a lot. This morning there's a little bit of discharge, but no puddles. I changed her box after the first 4 and then after the last 2 because she was sitting in the amniotic fluid and blood. Thankfully I had more than one kittening box!
And now she's back to her normal skinny self. Wish I got my figure back that quickly!
It was nerve-wracking, but we got 7 healthy cats out of it, so all in all, everything's going great!
