Kitten might've eaten my dog's Baytril chewable

Hello all,

This is my first post here, so bear with me.  My 10-month old kitten might have eaten one of my dog's 136 mg Baytril tablet.  My dog has some corneal ulcers that have gotten infected, resulting in administration of some heavy antibiotics. His last tablet was sitting on my living room table in an envelope last night, and this morning I found it on the floor ripped open, pill gone.   I figured the cat might have batted it across the floor somewhere, under a piece of furniture or something.  I've looked everywhere, and I can't find it.  Somebody ate it.  My pets  are notorious for teaming up to get something down off a shelf or table and the cat rips the bag to shreds, while the pitbull eats the contents.  Happens all the time.  I don't know whether this happened, or if the cat ate it himself.

I've been doing some research online now for a number of hours, and everything I see seems to tell me that evidence of blindness has occured in groups of cats that were given 50 mg/lb a day for 5-10 days.  Since my cat only possibly ate like 25 mg/lb today... once... should it be something to be worried about?  He's a very healthy kitten and has a hearty appetite.  If he ate it, it was about 8 - 10 hours ago and I haven't noticed any vomiting, dizziness or lethargy. He's been running around here like crazy all day. He just ate a 1/2 bowl of food, and I fed him a full one this morning.   He's laying down next to my pit right now, but I think he's just comforting him because he's wearing a cone of shame and not too happy about it... ;)

I've included some links to helpful information that I've found online.

Anybody have any ideas?  I would take him to the vet, but I'd really like to avoid it if possible... Honestly, I'm stretching myself way thin dealing with my dog's eyesight issues at the moment.

Thank you.

Standard dosing of cats with baytril is 5mg/kg so about 22mg for a 10lb cat. So if your cat weighs 10lbs he got about 6 times a normal dose (assuming he ate it and speaking personally, my cats would never eat a pill like it was a treat). When in doubt call your vet and watch for diarrhea.

You DID ask for "ideas", so: IF this were my kitten, I would have put the judgement about the need for Vet care in the 'hands' of my Vet rather than spend "hours" "researching" online.

This happened cause Baytril is a palatable antibiotic with attractive flavor for pets. Oddly, even my kitten seemed very interested in it when it was prescribed for my other cat. I looked it up online and found the information that I just shared above.

My kitten (6 month old) seem to have done the same! Did you notice any side effects eventually?

No, I never noticed any side effects.  The cat is fine... ornery as ever.  I think it helped that he was young at the time...
