Hiya all,

I took on a stray cat about 10 weeks ago who brought 4 of her kittens into my garden, I was shocked, but I gathered them up brought them inside in a warm comfy box,

anyway the kittens are doing fine now, they have been weened off their mother, they are playing, running around, eating & drinking by themselves......I took the mother cat to be spayed on tuesday, so i'm keeping her in and seperated from the kittens, But now one of her teats seems to be really more swolloen and looks sore,

Shes going back to the vets this saturday for a check up so I will tell the vets about this, but have any of you seen anything like this before and is there any need to worry ?

Thanks

Rob

I'm bumping this up in hopes someone who knows more about this type of thing will see it.  How old are the kittens?  You said she was just spayed on Tuesday...2 days ago?  Are you in Europe?  (reason I ask is I don't see her tummy shaved, and I know in Europe they do the spay differently, less invasive, although that really should have nothing to do with her nipples)

This doesn't look very good to me.  Does it seem to bother her?

Looks like it could be mastitis, an infection the mammary glands.  Your vet will probably put her on antibiotics and a pain reliever (because that is a very uncomfortable infection!). If the kittens are weaned he may also give her something to help "dry up" her milk production.

Good luck!
