What kind of peeing is this?!

I have attached a photo of what I found today from one of our cats.  He first started peeing on an old couch, we caught him with a trail cam (we have 3 cats). It looked like normal peeing, even saw him pawing around it to bury it.  He then was seen peeing on a cat bed, again normal puddle of cat pee.  Then I found this-I have never seen a cat pee like this.  He is currently being kept in a bathroom with his litter box (we were told to keep him in a small room with just his box, food, water so he was forced to use his box).  We switched him to Cat Attract litter (it had great reviews for cats with box issues) since we were assuming it was behavioral not medical and he has been peeing in it just fine for the past two days.  This has been going on for a few weeks, he pees in the box most of the time but occasionally does not.  We do have a vet appointment for this coming Monday but was curious if anyone could tell me if this type of erratic pattern of urine indicates an infection or what?  Thank you.

In the majority of cases, peeing outside the litter box has a medical reason. It's hard to tell, but the pee looks like a light brown color? If so, that means it's very concentrated urine. Concentrated urine can lead to formations of crystals. If there's a pink-tinge, that means there's blood. It seems like there's some type of FLUTD going on, whether or not there's an infection. It could be inflammation, infection, crystals, or stones. Since he's male, you need to watch for signs of blockage which are life-threatening. If he starts peeing in small amounts, that's a problem. If he stops peeing, that's an urgent situation. i would try to get him in to the vet today or tomorrow. You don't want to be faced with an emergency vet visit during the weekend.
