My husband and I have decided to volunteer at the SPCA and foster. We have just gotten 8 kittens who were dumped in a box. Their eyes are just open and still blue. I am looking up kitten care to get more knowledgeable. Any information or tips would be great. Want to do the very best we can for these little angels

THANKS!

Very much welcome to us, and tx a lot for your helping these guys!

Yes, you have found the right place....  Here is a wealth of knowledge....

I suppose you had began to follow the threads?  There are also articles on the site and forum itself you surely find them.

What kmr milk do you have access to?  One tip is you use goat milk, if you can find it.  Any goat milk is OK, but best if you can get raw goat milk... I suspect it is this milk gives some natural protection, from mom to her child.

Another tip, you do weigh them every day. Nice memory if everything goes well. A warning system if something isnt well. Use a kitchen or mail scale in grammes, easiest with electronical. they dont need to be costly!

A couple of useful site is:   www.kitten-rescue.com, about orphaned kittens.  Yours are no infants, but they are still very young, so you will surely get many good ideas from there.

And google on  fabsayc + handrearing kittens.

Keep reporting and asking!

Good luck!

ps  giving them milk, do it them laying down on tummy, head up, like they would do with mom. Seems awkward, but it IS the natural way.

You can held yuour  other hand over them, like a blanket.  This tip from one of our forumites!

Turned out my kittens were younger then assessed by the SPCA staff on hand. The vet determined they were only 2ish weeks old and decided to cut the litter in half. Because lets face it, 8 kittens at every 3 hours is way to much for anyone to handle safely. So we have four. We were given some powdered formula. It was ok. I had to use pumpkin because they were getting constipated. We are now on a home recipe of evaporated milk/unflavored gelatin/honey/egg other stuff. They like it much more. they are starting to run around and play more. I feel bad they are in a box and need more run time, but safety first. Trying to find a playpen or other larger containment solution is proving hard.
