Hi everyone,

Our little Wally seems to have been battling giardia for a little while now. He did the panacur and metronidazole treatment about a month ago, and he reacted really poorly to the metronidazole. He was also prescribed Hills w/d wet and dry food to help push the bacteria out of his system, but he only ate the wet food for about 4 days before he began refusing to eat it (we're still mixing the dry with their normal dry food). Anyways, his digestion was better for a few weeks, but now it's back to diarrhea. I'm at the point where I'm willing to try almost anything because it seems like nothing is working! I found this product called Kocci Free, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it, or heard anything about it? It's gotten really great reviews from what I've read, but I was just curious if anyone here had an opinion about it! Here's the link on Amazon:
Thanks!!

A number of things can cause diarrhea besides giardia like coccidia as one example. You might want to consider re-testing him to be sure you're treating him for the right illness. Also you do have to do a complete round of treatment as the medicines don't kill the parasites, they just prevent them from reproducing so until the life cycle of every parasite has ended you have to continue treatments.

Yeah, I definitely understand the number of things it could be. However, our other kitten was tested positive for giardia at the same time Wally was, and his came out majorly positive while Wally's was negative (that was back in late January or early Feb). We tested Wally again about a month ago, and though it was his second negative, the vet said that giardia does not always show up on the tests and treated it as such. We did complete the full treatment that the vet gave us, but it feels like now we're back to square one. There hasn't been a food change other than adding in the prescription food (which the vet said was okay to do), and we thought it could possibly be stress from a few things, but if that was the case it seems like it should have gotten better by now.

Well its true that there can be false negatives there are also a variety of ways to test for it, some more accurate than others. Repeated rounds of treatments, sometimes switching medications are necessary as well and it sounds like you've been through some of that. If your vet is using the most accurate testing methods including laboratory analysis then it may be worth considering other causes.

Thanks for the info! It's just such a super frustrating process. He's had some stools yesterday and today that were pretty solid, so hopefully some things are working themselves out in his system :/

I've used Kocci Free for several years now for several different symptoms and have always had great response from it. I keep it on hand at all times and order from Healthfitlabs.com using coupon code : FRIENDS at check out for a 20% savings every order. Their prices are good to begin with. Hope this helps. (I have used it on Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs, Labs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels over the years with the different types of dogs we have owned.)

It is also a great homeopathic anti-biotic - it will increase a dog's appetite with only a dose or 2.I use it when they get banged up with sores from scratches or anything that can make them not feel good.

Hope this helps anyone interested. But of course this does not constitute NOT taking your pet to your pet - I always make sure my vet is on board with using or adding this method of treatment with his suggestion as well. You should not try to self-diagnos if you aren't licensed to do so !!

Thanks
