From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

Anyone who has cats knows that they can and do get ill. Your best defense is to plan for that to happen before it does, and store monies away in preparation.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help. Check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.
Please note that this message is posted in every thread that is asking for money. It is not directed at anyone personally.

In the meantime, until you can get Brutis to a veterinarian - good food will assist him in dealing with any infection(s) he might have. Even inexpensive wet (canned) food is better than the best dry food. Try Friskies Poultry Platter, or what I feed my three indoor cats - Fancy Feast Classic but only the Tender Beef and Turkey with Giblets.

Also, to help strengthen his immune system go to Wal-Mart or someplace like that, and look in the vitamin aisle for L-Lysine. It strengthens the immune system. Because he's run down and snorffling with an upper respiratory system I'd probably give him 500 mg twice a day. If you cannot find the powder, the caplets are very easy to crush. Just mix it with his food. My cats get 250 mg twice a day as a maintenance dose. They don't even notice when it is mixed with their food.

Brutis is lucky he showed up on your doorstep, and you are wonderful for trying to get him help.

OH dear... poor Brutus. :sniffle: I am grateful to you for taking him in. Try to keep him warm and hydrated. Lots of wet food. You may have to gently syringe feed him canned food such as Hill's A/D from the vet. I wish you could find a vet willing to help you with cost to get him better. I also suggest giving the L-Lysine powder in his wet food. You can order it on-line from Amazon. A brand called NOW is what most of us use. 1/4 tsp. twice daily in the wet food will help.

Brutus may really need antibiotics though. That green gunk from his nose means bacterial. OH.... I pray a vet will help you with cost because Brutus really needs a vet. Maybe call a shelter and see if they will allow you to use "their" in-house vet. Sometimes they will assist you that way if you will take on the care of the cat yourself, i.e. giving the medicine and care from you home. Mega, mega vibes for Brutus. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: and a big hug to you for helping him. :hugs: :hugs:
