Hi guys!
My mom has 3 cats. 2 of them are litter mates, a boy and girl who will be 2 in August. Petey, the girl developed a scratch on her thigh and the vet said it is eosinophilic granuloma complex. He gave her an antibiotic. He said she may need to be on steroids.
Now, of course I've done some reading of other posts here on TCS, and learned a little about it. I've read that it is immune related and may be allergies. I advised her to try switching foods. She currently has them on W/D science diet dry and Evo which she mixes together (I know, not the best).
She has had the windows open for the past month, so I guess it could be pollen?

I also read because it is immune related she should maybe stop shots, as the are strictly indoor.

Just wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts.... Thanks in advance.

I am bumping this up since you haven't had any responses, but do have a question.

When you say you are wondering "because it is immune related she should maybe stop shots, as the(y) are strictly indoor", what shots are you referring to?

How is Petey doing, BTW?

Thanks mrsgreenjeens!
I was referring to vaccinations. The cats never go outside. I, of course told my mom to ask her vet about that.

My mom and I are looking into various foods to switch to. I am pushing her towards a grain free canned.

Peteys sore on the back of her leg seems to be getting better. But my mom felt a lump on her back yesterday and took her to the vet. It seems to have appeared suddenly as my mom pets her all the time and had never felt it. The vet aspirated it and said he could not tell from that exactly what it was. He said he "didn't like the look or feel of it" and wants to take it off and biopsy. He did not feel like it was related to the EGC.

What do you guys think about vaccinations?
Has anyone with a EGC kitty had luck with a food change?
I also have 2 cats out of the same litter... Is EGC hereditary?

The only vaccines my cats get are the yearly rabies (and always purevax!) and the FvRCP combo (feline distemper) every 3 years. They are all indoor cats, and my allergy cat gets them too.  Why risk them getting a painful and debilitating disease that I can track into the house when preventing it is so easy?  That said I do not vaccinate for Feline Leukemia since they are indoor and don't come into contact with other cats.

My granuloma cat reacted very well to diet change.  She still gets the occasional plaque if she eats the dog's food but otherwise is pretty happy.

So far as I know there is a very weak heredity link; environment, diet, and the quirks of the cat's immune system are the main culprits.

Good luck with your kitty, hope the new bump is benign!

This is where I read about not giving a EGC cat vaccines.

What type of food did you switch to? What was your cat eating before?

Petey is getting the lump removed on Monday, so we will know soon after that.

Thanks again!
