Hi    This is my first post, since joining a couple of days ago. I got my kitty,Morgan, about 6 months ago from a lady who had rescued him as a semi feral. Didn't know much about him,but I found out he has a sensitive stomach, and I have to be careful about what I feed him. I have a couple of questions regarding his condition..The first is : does anyone know of the best wet food to feed him? I use Halo Spot's Stew, which he seems to like, and he doesn't have any ill effects from it ..is there anything else I could try?  Also, will this stomach condition get worse with age?  My furbaby is a year old this month, and of course, I love him dearly. Is there any over the counter remedies I could use? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to The Cat Site.

By "sensitive" what do you mean--does Morgan have diarrhea? Throw up?  Whether he will grow out of sensitivity depends in part why he has a sensitive stomach.

Has he been to the vets?  If he lived outdoors for any length of time, he could have worms.

Halo's Spot Stew (wet) is grain free, so you might look for other grain-free cat food that B.G. and some of the CORE Wellness Brands.

You also should consider giving Morgan a probiotic, that has helped a lot of cats with sensitive stomachs.

Your cat may need more fiber in his diet, which you could do by putting canned pumpkin in his wet food.  It doesn't take a lot, about 1/10 pumpkin to 9/10 canned food.  Do you feed kibble and canned, or only canned.  I switch my own cats canned food around regularly with no issues but if kibble is not changed slowly, over the course of a couple of weeks, a lot of cats will get diarrhea.  Another possibility is that there may be something in the canned food that he can't properly digest.  I fostered a boy who had that problem, very bad diarrhea, who had to be put on a limited ingredient diet.  There are a number of those, some of them prescription, but you can buy Natural Balance commercially.  It limits the protein and carbohydrate to one source each.  I used to feed Pasha the salmon and green pea.  it also comes with rabbit, I believe.  As long as he ate only that he was fine.  It would be a good idea to get your cat looked at by the vet first though.  Cats can get irritable bowel as well as humans.  Good luck.

Thank you,Di-Di..Mr Morgan seems to be doing fine now..Sometimes his stomach flares up..maybe stress or something? The last vet exam,he said Morgan's stomach had an inflammed area.

I've very glad that Morgan is feeling better.  The symptoms that you are describing are consistent with a group of illnesses called IBD (inflammatory bowel disease - please forgive my earlier mistake of calling it irritable bowel).  The symptoms can seem to go away for a time and then reappear.  IBD is an autoimmune disorder that can't be cured but can be managed, often by diet.  I've attached a link to an article that you might find interesting. You said that you sometimes feed him Halo - Spot's Stew and this is from the Halo website.  Did your vet give you any information about the inflammation that he sees in your cat's stomach or suggest a way to treat it?  The least involved treatment is a novel protein diet which I mentioned before . . . it's a limited ingredient diet that utilizes one form of protein and one form of carbohydrate.  If your vet didn't talk with you about this, you might want to ask him about it and see what he says.  Of course, I would be thrilled if Morgan is just a little stressed!   BTW, I had no idea that Ellen DeGeneres was a part owner in Halo!
