First question; what are bank holidays?

My DH doesn't get many holidays. When he does we usually just spend time together.  It's nice to have a day where we don't have to go anywhere or do much unless we want to.

So you call them bank holidays because banks are closed for those days? That's interesting!

I have off work for more holidays than Rick does....he says I pretty much have one day a month off for whatever holiday. But he gets way more vacation time I do, so he still has more time away from work me in the long run.

It depends on what's going on. Usually for summer holidays (Memorial Day, July 5th, Labor Day), my sister and I take turns hosting the family picnics. Most of the other holidays (MLK Day, Presidents' Day, etc), I have off work, but Rick doesn't. Usually Columbus Day is my day to shop by myself. I go to the mall, check out the stores, buy what I want, have a nice lunch somewhere, shop in the afternoon and then come home, just in time to meet Rick when he gets home from work. It's leisurely and fun for me....I'm on my own the entire day. I don't know why I chose Columbus Day as "my" shopping day, but I've been doing it for several years now.

For the most part, the other national holidays when I have off work, I use them as just normal house-cleaning/cooking days.

Federal holidays! There are 10. I don't get paid holidays , unless I take Annual leave, because I'm a PTF (part time flex). I usually sleep late and then putter around the house doing stuff I don't normally have time for :tongue2:. I don't go shopping because the stores are crazy crowded on holidays and weekends. I prefer to go shopping after work on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

Statutory and Civic holidays, we have 10 too.

Since l work for a continuous processing facility, we sometimes have to work those holidays, but we get double time and a half.

On the ones we do get off, in the warm months l like to take the benefit of having no commuter traffic and drive to one park or other and enjoy our beautiful views.
