My daughter had kittens and cats growing up and since she moved to California after graduating from high school in 2007 she chose to give me a stray kitten that had made it's way into her father and stepmother's yard and was being cared for. I call him Lucky because he was 4 months old when I got him on Jan. 18th, Ann the stepmother drove him down from the mountains which was a 4 1/2 hour drive, after she had him neutered.  Since day one he's been having problems with a lot of foul smelling gas and either extremely constipated or very liquid diarrhea.  He's been through 4 weeks of alban and 14 days of a strong antibiotic along with 2 different wet bland food and still had diarrhea.  I had signed him up for a year of wellness visits at Banfeld so all of the vet visits fell into that plan.  Being disabled I wouldn't be able to keep him much longer. The vet he sees figured it's food allergies and put him on a venison and green pea diet.  Lucky didn't like venison so I exchanged it for the rabbit and green pea diet.  My sister called to tell me that even though the dry food had been opened I could still take it back to Petsmart.  It was 61.00 and some change and I was shocked.  I have searched the web for 2 days trying to find a less expensive dry food made with green peas and found that Pet Supplies Plus carries salmon and green pea dry food and it's good for kittens and adult cats.)  Lucky loves fish so it's a win/win.  Had I not been disabled and plenty of time to research the web for a dry food that I could afford I never would have found the salmon and green pea dry food.  You can order it cheaper online with free shipping.  Petsmart does not have a salmon and green pea diet and I didn't want to chance him being allergic to brown rice.  My sister said there's a change he could be allergic to grain and poultry as he ate his first dental chew stick, chicken flavored, but used them to play fetch with after that.  This is a very long email because I hope the email can save others from a lot of visits to the vet and on medicine.  I wouldn't have been able to keep Lucky had I not found t salmon and green pea dry food and it was breaking my heart that I'd have to give him up.   So if your kitten or cat has chronic diarrhea I'd try him or her on the salmon & green pea diet food as it's good for kittens through senior cats.  Forgive the long email but I learned to document in details as an ICU nurse and even though I've been disabled for 13 years I still email and write detailed long letters.  I just hope this will save owners and kittens with the same problems that Lucky has had since I received him as a 4 month old on Jan. 18, 2013.   Thanks for listening, BJ

Sorry Lucky is having so much diarrhea.

Yes, constant diarrhea and gas can be due to an allergy to food, be it an additive or protein or grain.

Continued vibes that Lucky continues to do well on the salmon and green pea food.

Thanks!  I too hope Lucky dos well on thie salmon and green pea food because being disabled and on a fixed income I can't afford 61.00 for 8.8 pounds of food with venison, rabbit or duck.  I can squeeze out the money for 216.00 for the salmon and green pea.  Plus when he needs more I can go on the web to find the cheapest price with free shipping and have it come to my home.  Being a legally blind ICU nurse I can't afford the kind of green pea diets that are sold at the store that's connected to the Vet Hospital.  Since neither Lucky or I drive I'm just thankful a friend helped me return the food and get a credit.  Oh, that's something else I learned, you can take opened dry cat food back if your baby doesn't do well on it.  My sister, lives in Myrtle Beach, has fed stray cats for a little over 6 years told me that there's a chance he's not only allergic to grain but also to fowl.  I'm thankful that I don't have to give Lucky to a no kill shelter.  I couldn't afford the price of the venison, rabbit or duck with green peas.

Thank you for your response.  This is the first site that I've actually talked with other people.  I wanted to tell others about Lucky's difficulties so that hopefully other people won't have to spend a large amt. of money on diets that they can't afford.
