Hello

I've noticed my cat who is almost 5 years having a low sound when breathing, I thought it might be pleghm.  Vet gave us Baytril 22.7 mg tablets, 1 tablet a day for 5 days.

I just made some search and read warnings that it can cause vision blindness.

What am I suppose to do?

HELP

I'd give it to him.  If you observe any side effects, call the dr immediately.

Blindness is the side effect of overdose.  If your cat is over 4 pounds (1.7kg) then that dose should be just fine.

My cat is around 3 kilos

and I've read it should be 5 mg/kg/day for

22.7 mg is totally safe, correct?

But again its states:

5 lb (2.27 kg) 1/2x22.7 mg table

10 lb (4.5 kg) 1x22.7 mg tablet.

5 mg per kilo so for my cat it's: 5 mg *3 kilos = 15 mg

My cat is NOT 10 lb. What category does he fit in? he should be taking 15 mg according to calculations.

Please call your vet and run all this past him.  I have given my cats Baytril for years with no side effects.  That is not to say it couldn't be the reason though.

I hope he gets better quick.

My Midnight used to take Baytril and she did great on it.. The other person is right, blindness is a side effect of overdose. If you're concerned with the dose, call the vet and check. But it should be fine otherwise.

My cat took Baytril for 1 day after receiving a shot of it from the vet, and he is blind!!! I wish I could take back that day cause now my cat is only 4 yrs. old and blind. I didn't know nothing about the side effects until the other vet I had  taken him to the following week told me he shouldn't have been giving that antibiotic, due to the fact it causes blindness in cats!!!!!!!!! So sad:(
