My daughter gave me a 4 month old kitten on Jan. 18th as a belated Christams present.  Lucky was an indoor/outdoor kitten that was left by his mom and wandered into my ex's yard.  He's had stool problems since I  adopted him.  He's had chronic diarrhea for close to 6 weeks andhas been through 4 weeks of Alban and 14 days of a strong diarrhea.  He was put on a diet of venison and green peas but didn't like venison so I changed it out for rabbit and green peas but at 66.00 for 8.8 pounds and being disabled I can't afford to keep Lucky.  However, I've researched the computer and found that the salmon and green pea is a lot cheaper.  The vet thinks Lucky is allergic to grain and I'm thinking poultry too.  However, I was going to have to give him away because his stool was formed on the green pea and venison and green pea and rabbit.  So I'm going to PetSupplies Plus store here in Raleigh, NC to buy a 10 pound bag of salmon and green pea dry food and since it's only 19.98 instead of 66.00 for less than 10 pounds I will be able to keep Lucky.)  So for those of you have a kitten or cat with chronic diar4rhea and they don't have worms try the salmon and green pea diet because even kittens can be on it and granted it is a prescription diet it is a lot cheaper than the venison, rabbit and duck diet with green peas.  You can also by treats that are freeze dried salmon with no preservatives.  It will save you lots of money from vet visits and medications.  Lucky loves fishe so he'll eat the salmon and green pea dry food.  His stools are firming up so no more chronic diarrhea!!!  Just wanted to share my story of Lucky his gassy self and chronic diarrhea to help others so that you don't have to go through so many vet visits and don't need to buy outrageously expensive food. thank you for sharing this information.

Couple of questions though.  What is the brand, so anyone reading this will know what exactly to look for?  This Salmon and Pea you are talking about is kibble, correct?

I'm so happy you are able to keep our little guy!  Now you are BOTH Lucky

Hi Everyone:

My name is BJ and Lucky was a belated Christmas gift from my daughter who lives in California.  He needed a home as he was an indoor/outdoor kitten that had wandered into my ex's yard in the mountains.  I adopted him on Jan. 18th and the Vet Hospital put down Sept. 14th as his birthday.)  Lucky has had foul smelling gas since the first day he was with me along with severe constipation, it looked like a child's constipated stool not a kitten's, and then the diarrhea started.  Being that gas was involved he had explosive diarrhea lot of the time.  I went through giving him 4 weeks of Alban and 14 days of a strong antibiotic that I had to order from RoadRunner Pharmacy, a vet's mail order pharmacy He had a couple of accidents trying to get into the open litter box and once he'd covered up his liquid stool he'd wipe his paw on the litter box liner going all the way around trying to get rid of the liquid stool.  I would wash him with a warm cloth and clean him up.  He would then go to the diarrhea that landed on the litter mat   trying to cover the stool up.  Any way his Vet said it looked like food allergies and took me to the venison and green pea dry food.  I was shocked that it was 61.00 for an 8.8 pound bag.  I bought it and then left my sister a message and she called back to say if he didn't like the venison I could take it back, even though it was opened, and exchange it.  So I tried the rabbit and green pea and he started to have some form in this stool.  However, I am disabled and can't afford that outrageous food even for Lucky who I love.  So I went to the internet to research it and found a salmon and green pea dry food that was 26.00 for 10 pounds.  I had a friend, being legally blind and unable to drive for the last 12 years, who took me to the store to get a credit on the open bag of rabbit and green pea and then took me to buy salmon and green pea which I can squeeze into my budget.  Plus I found it on a website even cheaper with free shipping so I can have it delivered to my home.  Lucky has had gas and mostly diarrhea since I adopted him on Jan. 18th.  My daughter emailed me from California apologizing for giving me a sick kitten.  Like Lucky's Vet said had he been left in the mountains he would have starved to death from malnutrition.  Draco, one of the mentors from this site, suggested I share Lucky's difficulties with others on this website so that's what I'm doing.  I look forward to him having formed stools and am very thankful that I didn't have to give him to a no kill shelter because I couldn't afford the green pea with venison, rabbit or duck diet.

I googled dry food green pea food for kittens and found the salmon and green pea food for him.  I am quite thankful I found it and I did find that I can order it from a website that has it on sale with free shipping.  I wanted others to know if your kitten or cat has chronic diarrhea try him on the green pea and salmon dry food that is good for all life stages once your kitten is weaned off of his mother's milk.

Mom told me not many people would keep a new kitten that has had diarrhea for the majority of the time I've had him.  Nor would they search the internet looking for food that was affordable for someone on a fixed income.

I love Lucky, he has emerald green eyes, and is all black except a white patch on his chest and a white patch between his back legs. He's now getting a streak of white hair around his shoulder blades.:O)  I'm so happy that I don't have to give him away.

Draco thought that sharing Lucky's story on the cat nutrition site that it might help others.  This is the reason I joined The Cat Site so that others might just try the green pea and salmon diet before spending money on vets visits and medicines.)

Have to go now, Lucky is better because he's wanting to play fetch.Yay!!!!!

I didn't want to give the name because I wasn't sure if it was against the rules and regulartions.  I found Natural Balance Salmon and Green Pea dry food.l  I can't read but it must be kibble because it's for all life stages.  Lucky doesn't have problems eating it so I'm thinking it's kibble.  You can also google it and find it on sale with free shipping.  However, I needed to get him on it asap so Rick took me to Pet Supplies Plus to get it.  PetSmart doesn't carry Natrual Balance so it's only venison, rabbit and duck with green peas and it's buy Royal Canin

For those of us who can't afford 61.00 for 8.8 pounds of dry food it's nice that Natural Balance makes salmon and green peas.  I was hoping by sharing Lucky's story others wouldn't pay for frequent visits to the vet, expensive fecal exams or prescriptions.  If the kitten or cat has foul smelling gas and loose stools it doesn't hurt to try the salmon and green pea diet.  It is also sold at Petco.  Buying it online if it works for your baby you can find places that have it on sale and has free shipping so it comes to your home.  Being legally blind I like that but Lucky needed it sooner than later.  I like that pet stores take opened bags of dry food that don't work back and will even credit your account if you can't find a food that will work for your kitten or cat.

Yes, I'm very Lucky I found the salmon and green pea for a decent price.  I was dreading having to give him to a no kill shelter.  He's starting to be playful again and is back to playing fetch nonstop.)  His stools are mushy but doing better.  My sister says she thinks he is one of those who is allergic to grain and fowl.  The only other think that is in the salmon and green pea dry food are vitamins and nutrients. It doesn't even have preservatives.  Lucky is happy with the salmon and green pea.  I read something by Candice who was having problems with Melody and diarrhea but being new to this type of forum website I couldn't find her again.  I'm hoping others will try the diet if things aren't working.  BJ

Thanks everyone for your positvie thoughts and well wishes. Lucky likes the salmon and green pea and he is now having mushy stools with no liquid to them. Yay!!!!  Hopefully his system will adjust to this new diet and solf his chronic diarrhea and bad gas.)  I'm just thankful I found a version of he green pea food that I can squeeze out of my fixed income.  Being on disability doesn't help when your kitten turns out to have severe food allergies.  I hope that Lucky's experience can help others.) BJ
