Hi everyone, my cat Kokomo is around 15 years old and at first we thought nothing was wrong with her. The past year, she has been biting at her fur and licking herself often. I took us a year to find out that she had allergies. We got that problem resolved. We then noticed Kokomo wasn't eating very much or at all. We took her to the vet and had her scoped. She came out of the anesthesia fine. We got the results back just today and found out she had a throat tumor. It turned out to be cancerous. The vet said the tumor would get bigger and she eventually wouldn't be able to eat anymore. It broke our hearts. She may have a month or maybe even less to live. We will eventually put her to sleep. Could I do anything to make her last days amazing?

I am so sorry.  The one painful truth is that when we bond with a pet we eventually have our hearts broken.  The only advice I have is to love her which you already do and recognize when the time has come to let go.  It is hard but often the last gift we can give is to know when it's time to let go.

I am so sorry you and your cat are going through this. I would hold her, hug her, tell her how much I love her and spoil her in every way I could. You will know when it is time to turn her loose.

Hey guys, Kokomo will most likely have to be put to sleep within this week. She won't eat at all and she hides underneath the bed fearing that she will be taken to the vet. She is in a lot of pain I'm sure, and I think it is her time to go. Kokomo is a Snowshoe cat, a very rare breed of cat. It is a shame we have to do this, but it is for the best. Thank you all for the kind and helpful posts during this hard time.

Thanks so much for your caring as we are going through this hard time. We have tried our hardest to get Kokomo to eat her food, but she won't eat anything. We will probably be putting her down on Tuesday, May 7th. She is mostly hiding underneath the bed. I can only get her out if I try my hardest. We all think it is her time, although it is a shame. She is around 15 years old, so she lived a great life. I will give more updates as they come along.

I'm sure we can find an pet organization that will pay for the treatment and you wouldn't have to put you cat down.

But did the vet mention the cause of this tumor?

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear about your baby.  Have you tried giving her some baby food on a spoon?  Turkey or chicken?  Make sure there are no other ingredients like garlic.  Warm up her food to luke warm, maybe the smell will get her to eat.

I'm so sorry you are going through this!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I can relate, tho,as I had to have my 14 year old cat put down last year due to a serious medical condition, which was painfull for her ( kidney disease or something like it)  The vet prescribed pain medication for her,to make her more comfortable.I hated to see her suffer, and yes,it broke my heart, but I wanted the best for her,and even went with her into the room while they did what they did,and after she passed, I petted her,and cried..I knew it was the right thing to do,and you will, too. You'll know when it's time, but it is an extremly hard thing to go through. My thoughts are with you.

I'm so very sorry about what you're going through. If she won't come out from under the bed, turn on a radio with some soft, calm music. Give her her favorite toy. Talk to her. Stroke her. Just do whatever makes her happy.

I can also relate. Our first cat was a stray who showed up on our doorstep, probably about thirteen years old at the time. She was born anemic, based on the records. She had a wave once, where she refused to eat for a day, but we saved her. Her second wave, she'd been hiding it for about a month, but she wasn't eating, and soon became constipated. We took her to the vet, forcefed her, put her on fluids, everything. The anemia turned into liver failure, and soon Jaundice (her nice green eyes turned pale yellow!). We took her to another vet for a second opinion, and they said we may need to make a decision on putting her down. She died three days later. :C
