My 1 yr old mother cat, Miss Kitty Kat, was hit and killed this morning by a car. Her kittens are fending for themselves but we sure do miss her. My neighbor called me to let me know and I walked down and got her and brought her home and buried her. This is soo hard.
Should I have showed her to the kittens? They don't nurse anymore but she was still teaching them things. Should I have showed them the body? would they understand?

I showed the kittens Fern's body when she passed. They seemed to know she was gone, and several of them got really moody for a few days and Ash and Champagne and Massey refused to eat. They were clustered around her when she died, but not close, so I picked each one up and let them sniff her and say goodbye. I don't know if it was the right thing to do, it seemed like the right thing in my heart though. I am sorry about your loss though, it is so hard to say goodbye to wonderful companions.

I am so sorry for your tragic loss!

Please don't worry about not showing them the body. I don't have any experience with that, but I don't think it really matters.

Jeano - I am very sorry for your loss and the quandry that this leaves you in with regards to the kittens. I hope that they have learned enough from their mom to get along well.

Hissy - I had missed the posting that talked about Fern passing and I am so very sorry for you - you tried so hard!

May God give you both comfort at your time of loss......

Jeano,

I am so sorry about Miss Kitty Kat. Cats seem to know when their mates and mamas pass. When Chloe, Rene's sphynx was in the hospital, her sister Phoebe was walking around the house meowing, looking for her litter mate. When Rene had to put Chloe down, she took Phoebe with her to the vet to be with Chloe. They nuzzled and licked each other as if to say goodbye. Cats know. They are very smart animals. The only thing I can suggest now is if you have a blanket or something with Miss Kitty Kat's scent on it, wrap the kittens in it when you feed them. That should give them comfort and maybe even help them to nurse again.

Take care and let us know how things are going.

Dearest Jeanie; I am so very sorry.(it never gets any easier to comfort a friend who has lost a beloved kitty) I pray that you will heal, but I want you to know that it takes time. . . . . (how much time is different for each of us)

A "blessing" (in my opinion) is that you have the kittens. You can give them extra care and love. (and in their own way they do the same for you) When you can, perhaps, you can go to the Paws and Reflect Forum and share your favorite Miss Kitty Kat memory. We are all praying for you in your time of healing.

I'm so sorry for your loss. God bless you and ease your suffering.

I lost my baby, Buddy, the same way last Feb. 5 and I'm still not over the loss but time is helping.
